Mignon cut her off, "Yeah, I know you have almost answered this before. Let's just start all over again."
"Okay. So what was your question?" Shikera asked, seriousness vividly expressed on her face.
"About the girl earlier, do I look like her mother?"
"You are her real mother, and not a look alike," Shikera replied without mincing words.
"I—I am the... the Esther girl's mom? How? Why?" Mignon combed her hair with her hand, the volume of her voice rising as she continued, "That's probably a stupid question to ask but how? Why is she calling you mom too then? By chance, did you adopt her?!"
Shikera was unsure whether to nod or shake her head. "Esther's father is, or rather was my husband, so she's my daughter," she stated.
In shock, Mignon clamped her hand over her mouth to stop herself from screaming out in shock.
