Chapter 6 - Mom's Love

Asher had spent the whole night thinking, he would be starting a new phase of his life tomorrow. Just a few days ago, he was just a piece of trash, and then he found what his father left for him.

Asher began wondering who his father really was, he couldn't say he knew him since he disappeared when he was only six. Asher didn't think any normal person would be able to get their hands on a dragon soul. Then again he remembered that there was no record of dragons amongst the books of animals that turned into beasts, even now there are few animals that have some dragon-like features due to mutation, but there was no real dragon.

"Elsa, are you from Earth?" Asher decided to ask about her origins."

Elsa who was watching a remade Twilight movie turned to look at Asher when she heard the question. "I am not from Earth, but as for where I am from, I can't tell you."

Asher finally had enough. "Why do you hide it, I am your heir, right? Then why do you keep hiding information about yourself."

"Because you are too weak, and you don't understand the way things work yet."

"What do you mean? Yes, I am weak, but I understand the way life is very much." Asher retorted.

"What would you do if, for the survival of the whole human race, you had to kill your mother?" Elsa asked.

When he heard the question, he froze. This was not expected. He wanted to reply, but Elsa cut him short.

"You see, you are not just weak physically, you are weak mentally. Your drive for power comes from the fact that you want to protect those dear to you, especially your mum. The day you can give me an answer that comes from the bottom of your heart, that day I will divulge the secrets."

Asher could not say anything. He wanted to say he would save his mum, but then he as well as the entire race would die. Then again, his mum was his world to him, he couldn't bear the thought of her dying.

Asher saw that he had no answer to that question, so he decided to let things be as they were hopefully one day along the line, Elsa would open up to him.

The sun rose on the next day, it was the day that a journey would begin. A journey that was never expected yet came to be. Asher woke up early to prepare for the test, wearing a black turtle neck shirt, black joggers, and sneakers. He was a little nervous, but he was determined as well.

Heading downstairs, he was about to sneak out. Asher knew that his mum would want to skip work to watch his test, but he didn't want her to do so. His mum might run out and attack somebody if something happened to him in the test.

Asher tiptoed to the door, but fate was cruel. "What are you doing?" He heard his mum's voice as soon as he passed the sitting room. His mum sat at the dining table sipping steaming hot tea.

"Mum, I was just heading out."

"Huh? But isn't your test today? Or are you trying to sneak out without me.?" His mother's eyes turned cold and murderous.

*Gulp*

Asher swallowed saliva. "No mum, I just thought you would have work to do."

"No need to worry, I took a day off. I normally only have two days off in a month, and I used one for you, so better make me proud in the test today." The last part of her statement was a hidden threat, and Asher knew it.

'Now come sit, and have your breakfast. I know that the test will be rigorous so you can't go empty." Asher obeyed and came to sit down. His mum served him pancakes covered with chocolate syrup. Asher saw it and gave his mum a questioning look.

"The sugar will give you energy, eat it because this is a one-time opportunity."

Asher didn't wait anymore as he dug in. His mum was very watchful of what he ate even at sixteen. Treats like this were on special occasions.

While he ate his mother took out a black box from under the table, it was like a shoe box. She dropped it on the table, immediately catching Asher's attention, and causing him to stop eating. "Mum, what is that?"

His mum pushed the box over to him. "Open it and find out."

Asher took the box, opening the cover. Inside the box was a pair of black metallic gauntlets.

"I noticed you don't have a weapon, and when I researched the Elite test I saw that the use of weapons was allowed. You would be at a great disadvantage if you didn't have one. I knew you didn't take any weapons classes so I assumed you would use your fist in the duel part of the test, so I --."

Before she could finish what she was saying, Asher dropped the box. Then going over the table, without hitting any plates, he hugged her. 'Thank you, mum." He said into her ear.

The hug had taken her by surprise, but it made her smile. She patted Asher on the head. 'Did you think I would let you go and break the hands I took nine months to create?"

Asher chuckled when he heard her, still in her embrace. When he saw the gauntlets, he knew that they were high quality and that they were far from cheap. His mum had burned her bank to get him these.

"You just have to get strong and pay her back." Elsa who had been watching, said to Asher. Asher gave a slight nod in agreement.

When breakfast was over, Asher took his new gauntlets and put them on. there were beautiful fits. His mum went to her room to get her bag, and when she came back, they left the house. They got a taxi and headed to their section's Elite headquarters.

The drive took about ten minutes. When they got out of the car, they were met with a grand skyscraper. The word Elite was written boldly on it. Just like them, people were arriving at the building in multitude.

As he was looking around, Asher saw someone he knew all too well. It seemed Ezra was taking part in the test as well. Asher called out his name, but when Ezra turned and saw him, he looked away like he didn't know him.

Asher smirked. 'We have unfinished business, Ezra, I hope I can get to fight you in the test.' He thought to himself.
