The other companion students of Shadowglade Academy cheered for their schoolmate, Bernard, with excited smiles on their faces. In their minds, a first-year student accepting a life-and-death duel against a second-year student was a purely stupid decision.
They didn't doubt in their minds that Bernard would end this substitute representative's life and humiliate Colzen Academy. Who knows? They might even get a few rewards for inciting this duel.
Bernard smiled confidently as he lazily got into his battle stance. He didn't think that Shye could threaten him at all.
On the other hand, Shye sneered inwardly. He also didn't think that this Bernard guy could pose a threat to him. He didn't even think that he needed to reveal his dual wielding against this guy.
Meanwhile, the professional adventurers who were at least diamond-ranked and above watched the duel with interest.
Duels to the death were uncommon among top-tier adventurers since all of them focused on their quests while ignoring those from other adventurer guilds most of the time.
In addition to this, top-tier adventurers didn't want to ruin their reputations by having a duel to the death inside the city so they preferred fighting outside and that's why they watched Shye and Bernard's duel with intrigue.
After a few more seconds, the duel to the death finally began.
Bernard was also a warrior like Shye so their duel was pretty straightforward and they charged straight at each other, however, they had different intentions.
Shye wanted to probe his opponent but Bernard directly wanted to overwhelm Shye with raw strength even though he didn't know how strong Shye was.
As a result, Shye easily managed to pull back his attack and dodge Bernard's full-powered blow. Then, after dodging Bernard's excessively wide slash, Shye managed to land a deep cut on Bernard's right leg.
In a duel to the death, being wounded in the leg is fatal since it would be hard for the wounded person to move around and dodge which means Bernard was now a fish on the chopping board.

Bernard groaned loudly in pain and his schoolmates called out to him worriedly. They couldn't believe what they were seeing.
In Shadowglade Academy, the first-year students respected the second-years because the top-ranked first-year knew that he couldn't defeat any of the top-ranked second-year students so they broke out in a cold sweat upon realizing that Bernard was in danger.
On the other hand, the professional adventurers and the students from other academies were disappointed.
After bragging so much, this Bernard guy was already on the verge of losing to a student a year younger than him.
Bernard realized that the crowd was starting to think of him as a prancing clown so he failed to make a rational decision due to how humiliated and enraged he was.
He immediately used his killing combination to avenge the humiliation he suffered after just a single clash.
Bernard used [Dash Lv.2] to suddenly appear in front of Shye then used [Pierce Strike Lv.2] to try and kill Shye in one hit.
*SPURT*
Bernard's attack proved to have strong piercing capabilities because Shye bled even after using [Stoic Lv.2], however, as Shye expected, Bernard's attack wasn't enough to kill him so he immediately retaliated with [Power Slash Lv.2]
"NO!!"
Bernard screamed in despair after seeing Shye's greatsword directly heading towards him but he refused to die so even if it hurt like hell, he desperately tried to dodge.
However, how could his desperate maneuvers let him escape unscathed? His entire left arm separated from his body as he screamed louder due to how painful it was.
"ARRRRGHHHHH!!"
"STOP!!"
"BERNARD!!"
The other students from Shadowglade Academy charged forward to try and save their schoolmate but they were too slow.
Fortunately for Bernard, just when Shye's greatsword almost cut him in half, an instructor from Shadowglade Academy appeared and deflected his killing blow.
*CLANG*
Shye managed to hold on to his sword but he was sent sliding a few meters back.
"How ruthless! Still so young but already so merciless! The world should get rid of scourges like you to prevent future problems!"
The instructor from Shadowglades Academy charged toward Shye to kill him on the spot when suddenly, he was sent flying by an instructor from Colzen Academy.
"Instructor Fienna!"
Shye exclaimed with a slight smile on his face.
He was racking his brains to look for a way out of this sticky situation but luckily, Instructor Fienna not only saved him on time, but she even humiliated the other academy's instructor who was forced to retreat after recognizing her.
"Tch! Fienna Evans! It's always you! You better pray that our academies don't get matched up! Our current generation of representatives will surely destroy yours like always!"
The other instructor threatened before hastily leaving the area together with the other companion students.
"Hmmph! Blabber all you want, our current generation is as equally talented as our previous golden generation, it's you guys who should pray that our two academies don't get matched up."
Instructor Fienna muttered to herself as she watched the Shadowglade Academy group leave the area like defeated dogs.
