Leslie's eyes widened in disbelief, unable to immediately grasp that fact. Mouth parting in shock, the image of Old Madam Xu's soft facial features resurfaced in her mind.
Even though Leslie hadn't interacted directly with Old Madam Xu, she knew the elderly woman's heart was made of gold. Perhaps, she felt sorry for the young boy thus, resulting on that decision.
"Yes, she wanted to take them in," Calix exhaled a sigh, recalling the unpleasantness of the decades-old memories, "But, Dad and Mom coaxed her not to. My grandfather also refused to acknowledge that boy as his child."
