Staring at the ringing phone call, having received the task message, Lenny wished he could bang his head into a thick wall.
'Just what nonsense is this…?!' He screamed inwardly, feeling as though he had reached the limit of tolerance he had for the type of tasks he was issued. Not that he could do anything about them though.
However, the call went through at that moment, and his mother—Sarah answered.
Gnashing his teeth and scrunching his face in frustration, he bottled a scream and exhaled deeply as he raised the phone to his ear.
"Steven?" Sarah's tired voice emerged from the other end, sounding slightly joyful.
Hearing her voice, with his maxed-out strength, Lenny tightened his fists until it started hurting. Only his equally peak human endurance prevented him from breaking his bones.
After a second of inner dialogue, he had reminded himself about the stakes stacked against him. This was the only way he could continue living.
