Soon, another volley of arrows followed. But this time, no painful cries were coming from the enemies. They must have a few mages in the army using shield magic to block the arrows.
But why didn't they bother stopping the arrows before if there were mages? Akila knew something was wrong, but he couldn't keep his focus on them as more and more explosive barrels made their way towards them.
"Forget about the men! Shoot fire arrows at those barrels first!" he yelled, and the archers complied.
Unlike before, the barrels were exclusively filled with explosives. As such, allowing them close to the settlement would lead to disaster. While the bullets might not be enough to kill them, explosives were a different story.
The barrels exploded as soon as the arrows hit them, causing great harm to the incoming army. But it wasn't all good news.
"Akila," a woman exclaimed, hurrying down from the watchtower. "We're under attack-"
