Chapter 42 - Dancing with Light

The dagger passed through the giant's light-made body, its ethereal form seemingly unaffected. Yet, as the blade traced its path, a subtle but distinct burning sensation emanated from the point of contact. It wasn't a crippling injury, more like the irritating sting of a relentless insect bite.

The giant swung its colossal arms to catch the annoying bug, but Adam was as slippery as an eel, dodging left and right, showcasing the progress made in his fighting technique after learning from Sir Max for six months.

Adam wielded his dagger with finesse, slashing and dodging non-stop in a dangerous dance.

"Hahaha, let's see who ends up burned, fucker." He provoked the giant with a crazy smile as if having fun in this dangerous situation.

The giant, feeling provoked by Adam or, maybe, just annoyed by the accumulation of burning sensations, changed his attack pattern. Instead of trying to grab or swat the annoying human, he summoned his spells to end him swiftly.

The giant moved his massive hands slowly, making human-sized light spears appear in their wake all around Adam, who was still delivering a flurry of slashes at his body.

Soon, dozens of luminescent spears, all aimed at Adam, were conjured and ready to be hurled by the giant.

"Hum... Is it too late to apologize and discuss things like civilized persons, Mr. Giant?" Adam widened his eyes in shock, scared after witnessing the menacing set-up the giant created to end him.

Alas, would the giant agree? Adam had less than a second before the barrage of spears would mercilessly collide with him.

'Think fast! What can I do to survive this?' He thought in panic, regretting his boastful provocations.

The first spears were already closing in, ready to impale and burn him to a crisp.

"STATUS!" Adam roared loudly while dodging the first few spears and taped rapidly five times with his finger in the air.

Agility: 6.5-> 9

After adding five free attribute points to agility, he felt his body become more responsive, his reaction time reduced, and the spears appeared to travel slower in his eyes. With this upgrade, he felt more confident about surviving the deadly spells.

Adam dodged the first spears with ample movements, wasting too much time and space in the process.

As more and more spears closed in, he noticed that he had less and less space to dodge. He understood he would be hit in the next few seconds if nothing changed.

His evasive manoeuvres had to become faster, waste less space and use fewer movements.

Despite concentrating on improving his dodging skills and showing notable advancement, the sheer number of incoming projectiles started to overwhelm him again.

Adam, faced by the barrage, didn't have more time to think or polish his skills further. His situation had become desperate; a spear could impale him at any moment.

Faced with imminent danger, Adam tightened his grip on the dagger, opting for instinct over conscious prediction to navigate the onslaught of deadly projectiles.

Even if it felt like a risky choice, his brain couldn't keep up with the speed and number of projectiles anyway.

'Don't let me down.' He thought in concern, remembering his dagger's abilities.

Beastbane Dagger's Abilities:

Ferocity Enhancement: Infused with the raw power of the bear and alpha wolf, the dagger deals extra damage against supernatural or monstrous adversaries.

Animal Instinct: Wielders may experience heightened instincts, gaining subtle awareness of their surroundings when the dagger is unsheathed.

Adam relied on his Beastbane Dagger's enhanced instincts, a subtle awareness guiding his movements as he danced through the onslaught with a single, instinctive glance.

He dodged again and again with less and less space to manoeuvre. He didn't know how long he had been doing this, but it felt like an eternity.

Soon, covered in sweat and with ragged breath, Adam stopped moving. He looked exhausted, on the verge of fainting, but, more importantly, he was still in one piece. He managed to dodge everything thrown at him during that terrible attack!

He directed his gaze towards the giant, noticing that no more spears were coming his way and that the giant's luminous body looked dimmer. He also felt as if it was slower to move.

Adam grinned madly after noticing those details.

"Huf, huf... Are you tired? You should have accepted my offer earlier!" He screamed, charging at the giant.

Adam hacked and slashed at his enemy's huge body with his dagger despite his exhaustion. In his mind, the giant had become his ultimate enemy. They couldn't live in the same world. He had to kill him or die trying.

"You think you are something? You think you can burn me? Hahaha." He screamed and laughed madly while continuing his relentless assault.

The giant tried to counter-attack by throwing palms and fists at Adam. However, he was not in the best state after abusing his light spear spell. His mana had hit rock bottom, causing him to suffer from exhaustion.

He failed to land any hit before, forcing him to rely on his spells. Now that Adam's dodging skills had improved by leaps and bounds, he had even less of a chance.

After a few minutes and hundreds of slashes, the giant felt his body burning. Adam had slowly stacked the extra damage effect of his dagger, causing him to feel extreme pain.

He looked at the tiny insect, who made him suffer so much with hatred. If looks could kill, he would have ended this fight.

"I hate you even more! Who asked you to burn me as soon as you appeared? Die!" Adam screamed at the giant in anger.

The giant, unable to endure further, slowly dimmed until its massive body exploded in a rain of light.

Adam collapsed in exhaustion after defeating the giant, lying sprawled on the ground, utterly spent. He then focused his tired eyes on the small text that had appeared, making a message box pop.
