The stillness of the shadowy woods enveloped Vixen and Gabriela as they strolled down the gravel path to unwind. A bone-white moon hung overhead, its pale light filtering through the canopy and casting twisted shapes along the forest floor. The women's footsteps seemed unnaturally loud in the hush of their surroundings. An owl hooted ominously in the distance. Vixen felt the hairs on the back of her neck prickle, senses alert to any deviation from the regular rhythms of the nighttime wood.
Vixen gestured animatedly, the blade of her axe glinting in the pale light, as she recounted her latest triumph against the notorious Vito Moretti.
Gabriela shook her head in admiration. "Well done, Vix. That broadcast will certainly bruise Vito's ego," Gabriela said with a grin.
