Chereads / The Editor's POV / Chapter 29 - Aftermath 1

Chapter 29 - Aftermath 1

Viper couldn't believe what was happening in front of his eyes.

The prey he thought all along would be like a rat suddenly went berserk and was now standing massive before him.

It was unexpected.

He received this mission from the son of the Archduke himself, telling him that his desire to get the Venomous Lotus Extract could be obtainable after satisfying his request.

He didn't think much when he came to know that it was just to kill some spoiled son of the Archduke.

Of course, he was still surprised that it was actually the Arcane who provided groundbreaking knowledge for the advancement of magic.

Still, in the end, his usefulness would end here.

However, who would have thought that the prey was not only smart but astute?

Now, he didn't have the choice but to hear him, at least.

Since the child in front of him was wiser than his client.

'That brat might be making empty promises, but this brat might be the real deal.'

He grinned.

He particularly didn't care about their conflicts since all he cared about was getting the extract.

He didn't even mind breaking the assassin code, which is protecting the information about the clients, for he only cared about the extract and achieving his long-term goal.

'Well, if both of them lie to me, they'll die. No one should know.'

However, he failed to realize that the father of his client, the King of the Atlas Kingdom, knew about the request his son made.

After all, it was he who ordered his son to kill Luke.

If Reid failed and it came to light that it was his son's fault, he would just push the blame for him and get away with it.

Even if it incurred the wrath of the Admiral, he didn't care, for they had been in conflict for a long time anyway…

Now that I have caught his interest, I must proceed with the plan in my head.

"Venomous Lotus Extract could be found specifically in the inner part of the forbidden region, as it was cultivated by the Zythar themselves. Hence, it was pretty impossible to kill them. However, what if it was the Zythar themselves to deliver it to us?"

His viper eyes widened.

I forcibly smiled.

"Exactly. My Father captured many of their kin as some were delivered for experimental purposes. I could ask my Father to control the Zythar and force them to deliver just a single extract of Zythar. I assumed that it's all you need, right?"

However, he shook his head, extended two fingers, and swayed it playfully.

I shook my head.

"That can't be. A single extract is already difficult to obtain, knowing they possess the intelligence of an adult. That's the only thing I can do."

Even so, he was persistent in getting two extracts.

I smiled helplessly.

"Well, I will try to ask my Father if he has Venomous Lotus Extracts and ask him to give me some. If he doesn't and still accepts my request of wanting some, it may take some time."

He was still silent as ever as he contemplated.

He placed his fingers on his chin and extended them again after contemplating.

He stretched three fingers, and my eyes forcibly widened.

Still, I failed to alter my cold voice.

"Three months?"

He shook his head, and his mask expanded, seemingly smirking.

"Three weeks."

"What?" I was in disbelief. "It might take some more time to deliver!"

"Don't take me as a fool. You have a teleportation magic circle."

I froze, acting surprised and scratching my head awkwardly.

"Ah, right. I forgot about that one." I shook my head. "Anyway, I will just give you updates."

I gazed at him longer and continued,

"So, do you agree to our negotiation?"

I extended my hand and waited for him in a tense silence.

It did not come to me that he would reject it.

After all, no one but my Father could satisfy his request.

In the end, he nodded but ignored my desire to shake hands with him.

He faced upward and gazed at the green world.

A sense of pity crossed his face.

He seemed disheartened by the fact he wasted so many resources, having not been provided by the client, to fail to complete the request.

Still, it was not a complete loss, knowing that there was now validation in inquiring about the long-desiring Venomous Lotus Extract.

While he was thinking, I couldn't help but raise a question, sensing he didn't plan to leave yet.

"How will you report this to your client?"

He lowered his gaze and met mine.

For some reason, he was silent.

His viper-like eyes flashed fear in a split second.

He must have seen something from me.

Well, I wonder what that was.

"None of your business."

I smiled.

"I understand."

I nodded, then continued to wait for him to leave.

Finally, he disappeared, leaving us alone.

At this moment, despite the emotionless traits, my body trembled in rage in the blink of an eye.

'Unforgivable, how unforgivable!'

I narrowed my eyebrows and gazed at the green sky.

I mumbled.

"I'll remember this day. I'll remember the individuals behind this plot."

My eyes instinctually followed the previous position of Viper.

"And I won't forgive you."

My mouth let out a chuckle.

I said internally, just in case he would hear it.

'Do you really believe all of that bullshit? Convincing my Father to get Venomous Lotus Extract? In the first place, there was no such thing as brainwashing the Zythar to steal their precious cultivated lotus. Even their Chief would instantly notice that their kin was brainwashed due to their strange bloodline link.'

I lowered my head to hide my snickering.

'What an imbecile!'

I enjoyed the hysteria in my mind at the moment, as I soon calmed down.

I gazed at Sophie with soulless eyes.

Despite being emotionless, I already regarded her as one of my precious loved ones.

Friends were what others called.

I couldn't afford to lose her.

She was the only person I held dear, as of the moment, as I hadn't even accepted Regulus yet.

Sophie shouldn't die.

Over my dead body!

'Those who try to harm Sophie must be careful.'

I swore to myself as I let myself be in this position for a while.

Since my legs were asleep – Sophie – then I didn't have anything to do but patiently wait.

Until Regulus himself appeared…
