Chapter 1 - Persistent Practice

*** The book starts slow, but you can be assured that it is an interesting buildup***

Standing high in the sky, the sun blasted the endless sea with its rays, uncaring for the struggles of the lives upon it as it announced its phenomenal presence to the world.

With the sun going about with its boasts, the several people who sailed atop the sea were placed under its rays, and while these rays did heat the atmosphere and their body, it was almost no bother to these seafarers who had learned to live at sea.

In a particular area of the sea, a boy with short black sleek hair, two deep dark eyes that sat over a cute button nose, and a developing angular face that still held on to some bits of baby fats in the cheek stood on the quarterdeck of a ship.

With his smooth unblemished skin which was unlike the tanned or burnt ones of most people at sea, the boy was a rather unique presence.

Standing there on the quarter deck which was at the back of the ship, the boy raised his bow, pulled his already knocked arrow, and then aimed it at a target board which stood all the way at the front of the foredeck/front deck of the ship.

The boy took a deep breath, waited a few seconds and then released his arrow, watching with bated breath as it flew through the air, and soared past the entire target board by a few centimetres.

Letting out neither a sound nor an unhappy expression, the boy turned to the man beside him, pulled out another arrow, and nocked it against the string of his bow.

A few seconds later, he released the arrow, watching it soar past the target board once more, the arrow a little bit more off course this time.

This time a "huff" left the boy's lips but his face remained as neutral as could be, and without delay, he turned back to the man beside him and took out another arrow.

As the boy moved to go for another try, the ship was rocked by a sudden strong wave and caught off-guard by the shift the boy stumbled backwards uncontrollably moving to fall, but luckily for him, the built man next to him was quick to reach out and grab onto his shoulders, helping him stand his ground as the ship slowly came to a calm.

"I really need to get used to the sea" the boy muttered, his expression finally changing as a look of annoyance claimed it.

The boy nodded to the built man in appreciation and with a small shake of his head, his plain gaze returned and he looked to the foredeck, ready to continue with his practice.

As before, he took out another arrow and nocked it, yet this time, before he could release it, he heard the loud thumps of a person climbing the stairs of the quarter deck and this said person climbing up and then moving over to him.

"Lord Don, your mother says to inform you that dinner is almost ready and for you to get ready," a man dressed in blue trousers, a blue coat, and sporting a bowtie around the collar of his white shirt said, a bow accompanying his words.

"Okay" was the boy's short reply as he let go of the arrow in his hand watching it soar and once again miss its target, and without delay he turned and took out another arrow from the built man beside him.

The man in blue seeing the boy still persist with his practice could only bow his head and take his leave, leaving the boy to his wishes.

A few minutes passed and the boy continued with his practice, failure after failure his only result but he persisted, yet just as he nocked another arrow and prepared to pull, he heard the loud thumps of another person climbing the stairs of the quarterdeck, but this time the thumps were softer, preluding to the approach of a much lighter body., one which he doubted he could easily send off.
