Chapter 16: Yoni And Lila

A dark green-skinned goblin stood in front of Bozo and the little female goblin. He looked like a typical thug, his gaze and words filled with spite. He wore a small earring on his left ear, making him look both important and worthless at the same time.

"Kahaha, I had already told them to let her get lost. Look now, she brought another piece of garbage to our village! If we never followed her, we would have two fewer mouths to feed! Putui!"

Hearing that, many goblins started to laugh. Some wielded wooden spears with spearheads made of stones and bones. They were the warriors whose faces Bozo could faintly recognize. He wanted to thank them with all his heart initially, but looking at their heavy laughter and mockery, Bozo turned his head away.

Without replying much, he and the little female goblin walked away. Bozo stared at the little girl; she had a small smile on her face, one filled with grief and sadness.

Bozo became naturally sad but decided to make the little girl forget about the pain for a bit at least.

"So, you were the one who saved my life?"

The little goblin paused. She stared at Bozo with her large eyes and shook her head side to side.

Her head, heavy and bigger than her body, almost made both of them lose balance and fall.

"Careful... careful," Bozo added.

The little goblin, now in better control, shook her head again.

"I no find you. Warrior uncles found me. I simply lost. Warrior uncles find you." (I didn't find you. It was the Warrior Uncles who found me when I was lost in the forest. It was the warrior uncles who found you in the process.)

Bozo smiled. He moved his left arm and patted her head again as he said, "No matter how you deny it. I'm sure it is you who saved me."

"No! Warriors! Me, no!"

"Yes, it's you."

"No."

"Yes."

"No!!!!!"

"Yesss!!!"

"Nononononono!"

"Yes yes yes yes yes yes!"

"N-"

And they went on for about two minutes before the little girl got tired.

Bozo was on the ground now, and so was the girl. They rested after the heated battle.

Bozo turned towards the girl again and noticed her sweating. Weirdly enough, she seemed quite against the idea of taking credit.

'Is this the honesty of a child?' he thought to himself before adding, "You saved me, and that's final. From now on, I'll call you my Little savior."

The girl's eyes widened again. She looked at Bozo and squinted her gaze. She then facepalmed - all these gestures meant only one thing: Idiot.

"But tell me, you didn't get hurt when you went to the forest, right?" Bozo seemed genuinely worried. He moved himself a bit towards her when all of a sudden, a large stick came and struck his back.

"Ouch!" Bozo turned to the back as he noticed another young female goblin, seemingly about the same age as his little savior.

"Huhu, keep your hands away from Yoni's Lila."

"Yoni? Lila?" Bozo furrowed his eyebrows funnily.

The little goblin, similarly having a fairer light green skin like that of Lila, walked in between and stood with her arms stretched out.

"Yes. As long as Yoni is alive, no one can hurt Lila." She proceeded to fold her hands as she directed her piercing gaze at Bozo.

It was as if imaginary arrows had come raining down and pierced his body.

"Heh, I won't hurt her. I am-"

"I mean, it is secondary that you don't have the ability to hurt her, but whatever."

"Cough!" Bozo felt that. Even her tongue was as sharp as a knife, ready to deal damage relentlessly.

"You have quite the way with words," Bozo somewhat complimented her.

"Uff, stop flattering me. It won't work," Yoni said as she twirled her hair, as if mocking him. But she really meant it.

Bozo shook his head upon hearing that and sat back quietly, observing the village in general.

'I have visited this place once or twice, but it was when I was quite little… It's interesting to see how much the population has grown,' Bozo momentarily lowered his head and looked once again in the direction of Yoni and Lila.

Both of them seemingly were having fun talking to each other. Yoni didn't hate Lila and accepted her for who she was. Bozo gave a small chuckle upon seeing that.

'In this cruel world, all you need is one friend who is by your side,' Bozo lowered his head once again, adding to his thoughts, 'Then again, both of them are kids. It is possible that in the future, Yoni might have a change in her heart and become what she feared…'

"Huh? What are you staring at?" Yoni clenched her fist and showcased her knuckles when she caught Bozo secretly watching her.

"Haha, I-" Scratching his head initially, Bozo, with a confident voice, said, "I was just curious about how she ended up like this."

It was something he came up with on the spot, but it wasn't entirely a lie. He was intrigued and curious about Lila's backstory. Unfortunately, he appeared as insensitive to Yoni.

"You-" She raised her left index finger as she continued, "You lack brain, don't you? Do you hear yourself?"

"…"

"Why would you ask about someone else's trauma? Why would you make someone recall what they have voluntarily forgotten? Are you mocking her?" Yoni was pissed for real this time.

A little kid such as her, completely fluent in her language, was ready to demonstrate violence.

Bozo didn't see this as offensive. Rather, he admitted his mistake as he lowered his gaze further.

"Right… Forgive me, I was in the wrong. Sorry."

That's all it took to stop Yoni. Her anger didn't vanish, but she controlled herself because that was a first.

'Sorry? Did I hear it right?' Yoni questioned herself as she widened her eyeballs, flabbergasted at the moment.

'That's a first… That's the first time anyone has tried to agree with what I had to say… That's the first time anyone listened to me… that's the first time someone valued my words… an outcast's words.'
