Chapter 7 - Seven.

Dylan

Setting the table for two was a new experience. I'm glad that I bought the table set for four even though I only had two chairs for my table.

The second I sat down across from Lecia, she started eating her food. It wasn't much, a beef patty with brown gravy, some roasted potatoes, and a bag of frozen vegetables I cooked with tons of butter.

By the time I had taken two bites, Lecia was almost done with her entire plate. She smiled at me again, and this time I saw the pink in her cheeks as if she was embarrassed by how she acted right now.

"You know, you are full of surprises Dylan," she said a little sheepishly. Holding her glass with both hands, I noticed that her finger nails were chipped and dirty. I had no idea how to do this, have a conversation with someone. At least not with anyone my age.

I shoved another bite of food in my mouth and looked at my plate as I continued to eat. If she was here to talk, then she would have to be the one to do the talking. Rae was curious as to why she was here, but she was also wary of her intentions.

Finally, she spoke. "Dylan, I'm so sorry that I came here without permission. I thought of calling you, but realized I had no way of getting your number. I knew that if I didn't come right now, I might never have another chance to talk to you like this."

Well if that wasn't ominous. I still didn't say anything. I kept chewing my food, but I was now giving her my full attention. Lecia looked at me as if she wanted something from me. Almost as if she needed me to ask her the questions. Or maybe not, I didn't know if I was already too deep into this.

"I wanted to tell you again how sorry I am for yesterday."

I had to stop her, I didn't want to talk about it anymore, especially not after how upset Alpha Rogan was yesterday. "You already apologized, don't worry about it."

Suddenly she jumped out of her chair and started pacing the floor right beside the table. I honestly didn't know much about this girl, so I wasn't sure if this is how she usually acted.

Rae wanted me to ask her what was wrong, but I was unsure if I should continue to have anything to do with this girl. It sounded like she was mumbling to herself, but I finally realized that she was talking to her wolf.

That intrigued me enough to finally speak up, "what's her name?" Lecia stopped walking and looked right at me, "what?" Maybe I hadn't asked the question right, "you're talking to your wolf right, what is her name?"

Curiosity will be the death of me one day, but I couldn't miss an opportunity to find out more information about someone else's relationship with their wolf. Did all others have relationships with their wolves like I did with Rae?

Lecia started laughing softly and then spoke. "Brea Her name is Brea and she wants to know why she can't hear your wolf."

Well that was new.

"What do you mean?" I wasn't expecting this. Racking my brain trying to think back on all the lessons I received in my youth about our wolves was distracting me from my surroundings.

Lecia had moved back to her seat and was leaning towards me on the table. I didn't remember anything in any of our classes that mentioned anything about our wolves being able to communicate with each other when we were not in that form.

Rae seemed to be just as bothered by this information as I was, but not necessarily in the same way. I didn't have the capacity to think about her feelings and my own at the same time so I decided to try to get more information our of Lecia.

I didn't have any experience just talking with someone, but since she's in my house, maybe I'll have home field advantage. Our little give and take must have helped to soothe her because her posture and demeanor changed to a more comfortable appearance.

Smiling she reached back out to grab her glass and quickly drank what was left in it. "Sorry, I'm not usually like this, it's just been a long day and I was starving." The look on her face seemed to soften again and I wasn't sure if she even realized it.

"You seem like you want to ask me something Dylan, go ahead." I wonder if she was picking up on that or if her wolf was, regardless, she gave me permission. Unable to keep the question in any longer I asked, "did something happen to you again? Did someone hurt you?"

Laughter like I had never heard in person filled the little room. Lecia was laughing so hard that I could probably count all of the teeth in her mouth. I couldn't understand what was funny about this, but I knew she would probably explain once she was done.

Rae was starting to get annoyed because she wasn't sure if Lecia was laughing at me or my question. I watched her as she finally got a hold of herself. She stood up and looked down at herself, "wow, I hadn't realized how bad I look, but I didn't think you would have jumped to that conclusion right off the bat."

Women in this pack were very careful to always make sure that they looked their best even when working out so of course I was confused by her appearance tonight. "I was training with Brea today. After what happened yesterday I knew that I needed it."

Her explanation made sense, and while I get pretty worked over when I do my morning workouts, I don't recall ever looking that bad. "Brea wanted to try some different things and I wound up deep in the woods near the border of the pack lands with no way to get back but walk."

I didn't know what to say so I just nodded along in agreement to her explanation. "I apologize if I gave you the wrong impression with my appearance." Even though I felt much better after hearing her words, the unease that Rae felt was still worrying.

"Rae, how long have you lived on your own?" Lecia was now sitting down again and had picked up her feet and crossed them under her legs. Comfortable is the only word that I could think of to describe the aura she was giving off.

We sat there for what seemed like hours, just talking about all different kinds of things. She shared more about herself than I did, but I was so interested in everything she had to say that I didn't want to talk about myself.

By the time she finally let out a long yawn, I noticed that the time was well past two in the morning. Lecia slowly got to her feet, "thanks so much for such a fun night Dylan. I hope we can do it again sometime."

After she left, I cleaned the dishes from dinner and went over all that we had talked about. A sense of happiness had filled my chest and even though I didn't want to over think this, I really hoped that we might actually be able to do that again.
