Nyla put the close sign on the glass door of the cafe After the last customer for the day left. Esther looked at Daphne who was arranging the chairs. Kian left early after the four guys who came to the cafe left. It wasn't the first time Esther had seen them in the cafe since she started working for Mr Mateo. But it was the first time they had mocked Kian. Esther didn't understand why Kian said nothing about it. If she was in his situation, she wouldn't have been silent even though they were customers.
The gossip buzzing in the air was about Daphne and Kian. Everyone wanted to confirm if Daphne had truly asked Kian out.
"You ask Kian out?" Bella spoke the question that was on everyone's mind. Everyone gathers around Daphne with a curious smile on their face.
Daphne hasn't even considered the possibility of them hearing her conversation earlier. Mr Mateo's restaurant wasn't big enough to hide a secret like that. Not that the guys who made fun of Kian because of her had little voice. Their voice was deep, loud, and annoying. Daphne was starting to understand why her late father ended up murdering some of his hostages, whenever he had to go through a stressful business deal.
Every human life used to be precious in Daphne's eyes. Until after Noah made her realize how foolish she had always been. In Daphne's good dreams, she was capable of killing Noah, in her nightmare, her hand froze with her gun, just like what happened to her on her wedding day.
"I asked Kian out but he rejected me. Even though I tried asking him again multiple times." Daphne said without caring about what the others had to say about her recent behavior. She never plans on making the whole thing a secret anyway. Daphne just thought that Kian would have probably been more comfortable if she didn't drag unnecessary attention to his life. But, sadly for Daphne, that was too late, everyone knows the truth now. All because she couldn't control her mouth earlier.
A light-hearted laugh came out of Daphne's co-workers. Esther gave Daphne an apological smile, but like the others, she couldn't control the chuckle that came out of her. Esther now understood why she sometimes saw Daphne staring intensely at Kian. But Esther couldn't understand why Daphne had feelings for Kian. What did he do to win her heart? Yeah, Kian was a good-looking guy, but there are other good-looking guys out there, and they are less grumpy.
"Why are you interested in him?" Esther asks, genuinely curious about why Daphne would want to be with Kian. To her, Daphne was so pretty, she was the sort of girl that could easily get any man she wanted. Why she wanted someone who didn't want her didn't make sense.
Could it be love? Esther thought. Maybe Daphne was just crushing on Kian because he was a mysterious guy who always gave out a, 'Touch me or talk to me and I will bite your head off, vibe.' "Daphne has strange taste in men," Esther said silently, to herself. But Bella had heard her and silently laughed at her words.
Esther's question about why Daphne was interested in Kian wiped the smile off everyone's face. Mr Mateo had a little smile on his face. He was silently listening, while he pretended to count the amount of profit made for the day. He usually didn't allow his employees to be this noisy, but like the rest of his workers, he was also curious.
"There is something about him that caught my interest," Daphne said truthfully as she thought about Kian ability to turn into a wolf. Her co-workers gosh to themselves. The girls thought it was cute, while Adriel thought that her answer was lame and cheesy.
Mr Mateo ran away to his office when he noticed that Daphne knew that he was eavesdropping on his workers. He gave a fake nervous cough and excused himself.
"The problem I have about Kian is his rejection. I don't know why he keeps rejecting me. Could it be that he's in love with someone else or he doesn't find me attractive."
"I find you attractive," Adriel said.
Nyla smacks Adriel's arm. "She's not interested in you or Jace who came here earlier. The only one she is interested in is Kian." Nyla still couldn't get used to Daphne's romantic interest in Kian. She had an idea of why Kian was refusing Daphne, but other than the thought in her head, the Kian she knew was sincerely not interested in going out with Daphne.
"I don't think the fault here is from you." Adriel rubbed the sore part of his arm that was hit. Nyla's hit was stronger than that of an average girl, even though she didn't look as though she was the kind of girl who goes to the gym. "We have all known Kian for a long time, some of us. Only recently like you, Bella, and Esther. But people like me, for over a year, and there is Nyla who has known him for years. Since I started working for Mr Mateo, I have noticed that he doesn't even try to associate with any of us. The only one I have seen him hold a proper conversation with is Mr Mateo."
"And he's always angry," Bella added.
"I still can't believe that you are serious about him." Esther was still asking herself why Kian.
"Since you like him so much, why don't you try seducing him." Bella secretly glances at Adriel. She had a secret crush on him. "I don't think there's anything shameless about doing everything you can to get the man you want."
"Bella," Esther called. "Stop putting weird ideas in Daphne's head."
Daphne didn't think Bella's idea was weird. Rather it was a plan B. Her old naive nature was still stopping her from achieving her goals. She needed to stop being her old self if she truly wanted to be stronger than Noah.
"I'm sure he will fall for it. I mean, after all, he's a man. He's not asexual. Right?" Bella ask. The lack of reply was beginning to make her question about if Kian was truly asexual. 'what a weird man.' Bella thought.
