Chapter 6 - 6: This is not the question I asked

'It hurts. Everything hurts. Does that mean I survived the night? Where am I?'

Sui opened her eyes slowly and blinked.

At first, the only thing she could make out was the white of her vision, but her surroundings slowly became clearer the more she focused.

'I am in a room I've never been to before. It looks too fancy to be an ordinary room. Then, does that mean I am dead?'

Sui's brain was working slowly, and it felt like it was under a daze.

Moving her body caused Sui pain, but she managed to turn around and finally stand up.

The pressure caused Sui's wounds to tingle instantly, and she felt her leg give up.

The pain traveled up her legs and her spine, causing Sui to look for something to grip.

*ringgg*

Several things fell when Sui tried to grab the table for support, and the loud noise made Sui's head ring.

The person in charge of the place also ran in when they heard things falling, and Sui felt a presence in the room with her.

"E-Excuse me, but-"

Sui's body was raspy and barely audible when she spoke, so it was natural that the maid did not hear it.

It might also have something to do with the maid's rising temper when seeing the condition of the room.

"What do you think you are doing? Do you have any idea how expensive the stuff you have ripped is? Your sorry life is not even worth half of it. If not for the order, you would be in the streets by now."

The maid grabbed Sui's arm and threw her back in the bed.

It was a rude gesture, but Sui was thankful for the help. It offset the pressure and pain she had been feeling.

"Thank you. B-But where-"

Sui tried to speak again, and this time, it went better than the first time.

Her saliva was already wetting her mouth, making Sui feel parched.

"You are an ungrateful brat. Listen here! Our beloved Imperial Princess, Yunjin, saved you, so you better show your appreciation to her. Give her a low bow, and don't look her in the eyes. And as soon as you are recovered, leave this place."

The older servant was quick to put Sui in her place.

As a servant who bordered on being a slave, just the thought of Sui being anywhere near the Imperial Princess was enough to make the old lady shudder.

"I-I understand! Can I have some water, please?"

Sui asked, but from the look she was receiving and the attitude the servant had shown so far, it seemed that Sui's request was too much.

"If you want water, get it from the servant's quarters on the other side of this building. Don't you dare touch any utensils in this palace, or they will all need to be replaced later."

Sui's heart sank as soon as she heard those words.

'Ah, so this old servant is likely a Nobel by birth. I heard that anyone who served in the Imperial blood had to be Nobel by birth. It looks like the rumors were true.'

Sui looked at the servant in front of her, and her head throbbed as she was forced to stand up and head out.

Her parched throat was killing her, and Sui knew she would faint if she did not get to drink something soon.

But just as Sui reached the door, it was pushed open by a very familiar figure.

The morning light made those short blond hair shine brightly on top of that serious face, but Sui was stuck by those cold blue eyes that looked back at her from that handsome face.

Imperial Princess Yunjin could not be called 'beautiful' but 'handsome' with her large frame and wild aura.

Then, the princess reached out toward Yunjin with her large hands, causing Yunjin's heart to drop.

'The princess spared my life last night, but is she going to end me now? Shit! I am so dead.'

Sui closed her eyes, not wanting to see her end.

She waited for a sharp pain to end her life, but instead of being harmed, Sui was grabbed from the back of her shirt and picked up.

Before she knew it, Sui was grabbed from the back of her robes and carefully put back on the bed.

"Nanny, I told you to take care of her. Why was she hopping all over the floor and bleeding out? What were you doing while this happened?"

Sui's body shuddered when that cold voice rang into her head.

It sounded different from the madness of the day before, but Sui shuddered all the same.

"Princess Yunjin, this servant, apologizes for her mistake and promises that this will not happen again."

The nanny did not look happy to be scolded, and her eyes told Sui that the nanny blamed her for her current condition.

"Nanny, are you making excuses for your actions? You know I don't like people who don't understand their position, right? Now, shall we try again? What happened?"

The chilling undertone in the princess's voice warned the nanny not to lie or beat around the bush.

'What will the nanny do now? Will she lie again? Or tell the truth? Will it even matter?'

Sui was curious about the nanny's next move.

"This servant apologizes. I got sidetracked while cleaning up your room and did not realize that your 'guest' had decided to try and leave. I will make sure this does not happen again."

The nanny was good at twisting words and speaking half-truths to conceal the information.

Sui would not have questioned the nanny further, but the Imperial princess looked unimpressed.

"Nanny, this is not what I asked you. I am asking you why she felt the need to stand up on her injured leg in the first place. Is your old age making your hearing hard? Hall, I put you out of your misery now?"

The princess asked, and it almost sounded like a joke. But the tension in the air convinced Sui that this was not a joke.

The princess was seriously considering killing her nanny over nothing.
