Chapter 24 - The road to a new start 6

The only guess that he had, was that the architect was either Kissenn or the Voice. The former was impossible to be, the voice was right there as Kissenn died.

'Dammit.' The black-haired man got up, holding on to Testament.

"Anyway, what do you mean that the blade was originally yours?" As far as he knew, the sword was a reward from the class or something like that.

Urien pocked his head out of the kotatsu. "Simply, the system cannot reward what it does not have. The Architect stole many artifacts and stuff from others. My… my Testament was amongst those things."

The blond's face turned bitter before he hid in the kotatsu again, whimpering. The gingerhead sharpening his blade rolled his eyes in annoyance.

Ellianor analyzed the sword he had in hand.

Its form was dissimilar to Testament. While Testament had a double-edged blade, the black sword was a falchion, and almost looked as if it was made from black marble and volcanic stone.

'So the system cannot give ultra-powerful stuff willy-nilly, because the one that runs it does not have an infinite amount of that.' Now it made sense why the voice couldn't simply turn him into a god.

"Does that damned system run on a law of equivalent exchange?" Sylas nodded, walking away to his spot on a sofa.

"Pretty much it does. It is meant to help you grow, not hand power over to you. That's why it fell out of favor.

It cannot turn you into godlike immediately." He chirped, as a vein jumped on Ellianor's forehead.

"Why does everyone seem to know about the system?" Ellinor asked with irritation and annoyance at how everyone was in the know about it, minus himself, and Kissenn.

A dry, almost whimsical, and self-depreciative laugh came from the ginger in his corner of the room. "Because it is everyday knowledge and has been so for a long time. Don't beat yourself too hard about it, it is a stupid thing."

His voice was full of bitterness but seemed wise as if he had to deal with this song and dance for a long time. "Pretty much what Muriel said. Besides, we have more important too. Like finding where Testament went."

Sylas stretched his limbs and picked up a laptop. It almost was like the ones Ellianor had back on Earth, almost mundane in comparison to… everything that was happening in his life.

And it had not been a day.

"Thank you for your help… So Kissenn." Ellianor turned around, but she was nowhere to be seen. Rather, she was on before a fridge, her eyes glistening as she filled her plate with meat.

His body felt as tired as his body on Earth before it was vaporized, or killed, by the void he was sucked in before awakening as Ellianor. "Hey, pal! You are the new guy, aye? C'mere and great Lil Hoggy! She wants to talk to ya!"

The guy playing the racing game waved his hand at Ellianor. His clothes were a little… subpar.

A beaten-up jacket and pants, no shoes, and stubbles. His hair was a dirty brown. He had a carefree appearance, to say the least.

Since he was ditched by Kissenn, Ellianor decided to give it a shot. He walked to the man, and the woman behind the glass. "Hi, pal. The name is Yuri. The girl behind me is Nidhogghir."

She waved at Ellianor, and the black-haired man weakly waved back. "Well, I was playing some game with her, but she wants to greet ya, and the other girl is on her own 'lil world."

The sound of the fridge being raided could be heard from across the room.

"Hi. Nidhogghir. I am Ellianor." She smiled and started to place her hand on the glass, a small cloud of steam on her side made letters visible on it.

It was a message saying hello, and stating her name. She smiled sweetly, while Yuri got up, cracking some bones in the process. "Well, you have to get used to Hoggy's way of communication. She likes to write on the glass, but she can talk using machines."

Hoggy nodded her head frantically. While the tank was filled with fluid, she looked more like an embryo inside a soft shell egg, even the yolk was visible, alongside the nerve endings inside the egg.

"Pardon for the abrupt question… but why is she in the tank?" For a moment, her face became one of surprise, but it quickly vanished for frantic enthusiasm, and Yuri laughed loudly.

"You see? Hoggy is an embryo, literally. She is the egg of a dragon, but those guys develop differently from us, so well, she is like that. Has been since I entered the crew." The embryo raised her thumbs, a proud smile on her face.

It was the first truly Alien species he had seen, and it did not disappoint in that regard.

"So… the thing on her head is…" Ellianor had an inkling about that, it vaguely looked like some sort of head crest.

"Yeah, developing bone and tissue over her head." It was fascinating as much as it was gross to look at. In that regard, Ellianor was not disappointed about this "alien species".

'Dragons and stuff were a constancy back on Earth,m didn't expect I would see… an alien dragon.' Ellianor walked, standing before the glass as she giggled.

There were no bubbles or signs of her giggles besides the movement of her lips.

She wrote on the glass with a finger. 'Stare as much as you want. I am not going anymore.' The black-haired man snorted, her sense of humor was on point with his.

"I almost became a doctor once. It is just surprising to see… you. I have never seen anything like that before." It was fascinating in a creepy, biological way.

'How does a dragon develop for an embryo to look like a human?'

Suddenly, an arm was wrapped around his neck, and another hugged his chest. "Hey, what are you doing seeing another woman? You didn't even give me proper greetings and apologies for almost dying."

Kissenn was behind him. She tightened her "hug", and Ellianor could swear he heard some bones of his cracking.
