Chapter 36 - Departing 3

Ellianor and Kissenn held their heads, a large callous on the top of it. Even with the ten percent reduction of all damage, the pain was there, even Kissenn winced and flinched when touching her head.

The ship got off the hanger, as the passage opened and it flew away, almost smoothly, the change of place and the movement was barely noticeable.

The problem was the woman before them.

A pleasant smile, and eyes filled with the promise of a gruesome death. They trembled under her gaze. "You two shouldn't flaunt your height too much. As they say: the bigger the size, the greater the fall."

The duo nodded, not wanting to be hit by their senior again. It was not a pleasant situation. "Good, good, you two are quick learners. This is a good trait. Now, it is time for the briefing."

Aur coughed with one hand before her mouth, her eyes gathering the information and her thoughts on the mission.

"We are going to a place known as The Scrapyard. We are on our way to get on the track of Testament, the stoneblade. On itself the blade is an anomaly, thus our target." They nodded.

'So that blade is an anomaly too…' Given how it was used by Urien, and its strange relation with blood, and deaths, it made sense. Terrible sense that it was an anomaly too.

"The Testament's energy was last seen there, amongst the Scrapyard. The scrapyard is a collection of derelict stations, asteroids, and shattered moons. Beware of the dangers there."

Kissenn raised one hand. "There will be Primordial Corruption there too?" There was a certain edge in her voice, as flames burned deep in her eyes. Flames of retribution.

She wanted to settle the score against the corruption for what happened in the base.

Ellianor noticed her thirst for revenge, but he was unsure if it was because of their link, or mutual understanding.

"There may be. Don't worry about its spread. The Scrapyard has… its means of dealing with that. You should be wary of its inhabitants, and possible drifters like robots and dangerous life forms."

Ellianor nodded, several "dangerous life forms" came to his mind, all worse than the other. "There are parasites or symbiotic life forms in that place?" It was Ellianor's turn to be concerned.

Aur held her chin. "There may be, so you should keep your guard high, always." Ellianor started to sweat cold, his priority now was getting a flamethrower or fire-related abilities.

He would not take his chances against alien parasites of any kind. Aur locked her eyes on his. "Cease those childish thoughts. If a Parasite infects any of you, I will remove it myself."

It was reassuring… 'Besides, your biology is in line with a sentient phenomenon than a biological being.' Her gaze turned on Kissenn, who was listening, but not that attentively.

"The boy has a better chance at fending off parasites than you do, girl. So don't slack off either. It will be bothersome to remove parasites from either of you." Kissenn jumped from her seat, startled by the sudden call out.

Their senior sighed. "You two may want to get some jobs on the Scrapyard to get acquainted with social interactions in our mission. More often than not, we have help from the locals."

'Hoooray, societal activities…' Ellianor had to wonder what type of social interactions people had in a scrapyard. As if noticing his thoughts, Aur stared at him.

"All kinds of people. The Scrapyard is the home of many drifters and those who lost their homes. You two will feel at home there since both of you have none to speak about."

Both winced at the remark.

'They are drifters and don't want to be questioned about their home. You wouldn't like it, so shut up…' That was one effective lesson if Ellianor saw one.

Sure, she could have said to be mean, but it should be beneath a person on the higher hierarchy of the Wardens than them. Kissenn looked at him, her face flushed with rage.

Ellianor looked back, his face a little soberer, and deprived of the same emotions she felt.

"What? Why are you not angry? She just!" Kissenn gritted her teeth, her eyes enwrapped by pink flames.

Aur stepped aside, a proud and knowing smile aimed at Ellianor. A silent gesture of trust, to let him handle the situation.

He exhaled deeply, his case cast downwards, as the memories of Earth came to mind.

Not of the house he lived, in but of the whole planet, the city, and the neighborhood he lived and worked in.

"People have a hard time understanding the pain they had never felt. Sometimes the best way to sympathize with someone is to feel that pain ourselves." It was why he couldn't get angry at Aur.

They were drifters like them, without a house. Kissenn continued to stare at him with outrage, unable to understand his calm, and mournful mood at Aur's words.

"We are drifters too, Kissenn. We have no home, I am cut away from mine by unknown lightyears. How do you think they would feel if you talked about their homes? From where they came?"

Even those who were born in the scrapyard would not feel too good about it. They were born in a place inhabited by drifters, and all kinds of strange things by Aur's words.

It was not ideal, it was not even bad, it should be one of the worst places to live in. Kissenn clenched her mouth shut, she thought of how they would feel, the outrage, the anger, the sadness of remembering their old homes…

How it must feel to be adrift, to be lost… to have no one by her side… her eyes relaxed, small tears forming around her eyes.

The anger she felt had suddenly become sadness as she thought about it.

She had no words to react, or even criticize something. She was imprisoned by her thoughts and feelings. Ellianor wordlessly came closer to her, and held her in his arms, in a tight hug.

Aur smiled.

'The girl is prone to anger, and the boy is the calm one. I hope you two balance each other, rather than becoming antagonistic.' If anything, the current show proved that they had a future.
