Alexa and Ramon made it to her home in a heartbeat. Ramon had not stopped the car before Alexa jumped out and rushed towards her house like the devil was chasing her. She was shouting as she entered the house."Grandma, are you home! Grandma, I'm home! Where are you?" But what she noticed was a dark house with not a soul home...
No one responded to her calls. Alexa started to panic and question different scenarios. She thought, ' maybe she was resting in her bedroom. ' She hastened and opened the only bedroom in the house.
"She was not there either; Where did she go?" She mutters as she frantically explores the back of the house. She opened the back door and ran towards their next-door-neighbor to see if anyone saw or heard from her grandmother.
She knocked on the door several times in a panic. The door opens, and an older lady appears in front of Alexa. "Aunt Inday, Have you seen my grandma?"
Inday shook her head vigorously, "I have not seen your grandmother since yesterday when she came and borrowed a couple of hundred dollars. To be honest, I thought you came to pay. She told me you would pay today when you finished your job? Do you have the money? The total is..."
Alexa could care less about the debt at the moment. The most important task was to find her grandmother. She was afraid that something happened to her on the way home, and she could be laying on the street somewhere hard, cold, or even dead.
No! No! No! She could not think that way. She had to think positive. On the way back to her home, she saw an old man and a couple of teenagers approaching. She quickly runs to them to ask if they had seen her grandmother.
"Uncle Lupe! Did you just come from playing Mahjong? By any chance, did you see my grandmother there? " She asked while tears began to form in her eyes.
Lupe shook his head, "sorry dear, I did not come from playing Mahjong, I was out with my son. Why don't you go and check yourself, she might be there." He then continued walking while shaking his head.
Alexa thought of what the old man said, and decided to go and see for herself. On the way there she was asking everyone that passed by with tears flowing on her face. "Please, anyone...I beg you if any of you have seen my grandmother..."
Unfortunately, Grandma Santos was nowhere to be found, and Alexa's getting concerned by the minute.
Ramon came back from inspecting the other side of the street, as soon as he saw Alexas's shamble feature, and tears flowing down her beautiful face, his heart started breaking. He wanted to comfort her, do something for her, but he did not know how he could go about it. If only he could find her grandma, it would solve the issue.
Alexa saw Ramon coming, and she ran toward him in his embrace while crying hard. "Ramon, what am I going to do? I can't find my grandmother anywhere, and no one has seen her around. I'm on my way to where she normally play Mahjong, would you like to come?" Alexa was pleading as she asked with tears in her eyes.
Ramon was stunned for a moment from the way Alexa ran to him and hugged him. He was rooted to the ground and unable to move. His two hands were in the air. He was afraid to touch Alexa.
"It's alright! Everything will be alright, and I'm sure she's somewhere safe. She's probably playing Mahjong. Let's go and check alright!" He jokingly told Alexa, hands still up in the air like someone is robbing him.
He kept his hands up as long as he could, but when Alexa started crying harder and started shaking...He had no choice but to begin comforting her by rubbing her back shoulder and brushing her hair with the other hand.
"Shsss, she's fine... I know she's fine... Why would she leave the hospital is she wasn't?"
Alexa felt comforted and started to feel at ease. She sighed a relief before breaking up with Ramon's embrace. While looking at him with her puppy eyes, "Ramon, can I ask you a favor?"
Ramon would do anything for her, she could ask him to jump, and he would only ask how high.
"Sure! What is it?" Looking at her with tenderness emitting from his eyes.
Alexa paused for a moment, contemplating if she should or not, she then took a breather before going for her favor... It's tough, but there was nothing she could do at the moment. She needed to have thick skin, she knows Ramon wouldn't mind.
She looks at him straight on his face before seriously asking. "Can I borrow a couple of hundred dollars?" She then looked down as soon as the word came out of her mouth embarrassed...
She has not seen him in so long and now she's already borrowing money from him. What would he think of her? She decided to forget the whole thing. "It's alright, you don't need too. I can figure it out later. Let's just go and look for my grandmother, alright!" She then turned around ready to go when...
