Shirley woke up in the middle of the night. She sat panting heavily. Her whole body was drenched in sweat. Her heart was beating rapidly in her chest. She was disoriented and it took her a while to realize that she is in her new room. Gradually her breathing returned to normal but the underlying anxiety was still there.
Shirley could not understand why she woke up suddenly. Her throat was parched and lips dry. She wanted water. She did not want to think about anything, right now. she wanted to leave this bed. Shakily she stood up but then held the bedpost when she felt her legs tremble.
What was wrong with her? She wondered.
Taking deep breaths she took a step and then another. When she was sure that she won't face plant herself on the floor she let go of the board and then went out of her room. Her destination was the kitchen.
