When the call was disconnected Shirley's increasing nervousness suddenly plunged to the bottom.
What happened? She thought.
Her excitement and the initial thrill went down the drain. She suddenly felt silly for her antics. She thought maybe he was busy. She would try once again later. Setting aside the phone she went to the bathroom to freshen up. She was washing her face when she heard her phone ring. But she could not go out to pick it up.
Silently she cursed the bad timing but she could do nothing. The ringing stopped and then started afresh. Shirley continued to wash her face and eventually, it stopped. She strained her ears to listen if it rang again but it did not.
Something in her heart said that the call was from Drake. She felt giddy with excitement thinking that he really was busy but he called back.
