Chapter 60 - Chapter 58

Joan covered her mouth to mask the annoyed scowl that spread across her face. "I thought this was my mission."

Damien's body began to tremble. He couldn't tell whether Joan was lying or not. Her poker face made it impossible for him to get a read on her. How would she have known, though? Damien comforted himself in the possibility that she was lying.

Joan held her hand out to Navier, who looked at her looked in confusion. His large doe eyes flickered back and forth between her extended hand and annoyed gaze.

"Hurry, phone."

Navier's mouth widened into the shape of an O as he hastily handed his phone over to Joan.

She switched over to emergency contacts and dialed in the number for the police.

"I'm one phone call away from sending you and your entire gang to jail," Joan said as she showed the screen to Damien.

A trace of fear arose in his eyes as he gnawed at his lower lip.

"What do you want?" Damien growled.

"Your ass in jail," Joan said stoically.

She pressed the green dial button, and the familiar ring echoed throughout the apartment room. Damien's eyes widened profusely. He attempted to launch himself forward to snatch the phone from her hands, but the knife implying his pants to the ground pulled him back.

"What the hell did I do?" Damien asked, sounding as though he were in the victim in this situation.

"Stalking, illegal distribution of drugs, illegal distribution of weapons, sale of drugs to a minor. Oh, the list goes on," Joan said.

"Sherriff's office, how may I help you?" a tired voice drawled from the other end of the cell phone. Hours worth of receiving accidental calls from babies playing with their parent's phones had worn the operator out. Needless to say, they expected this call to be yet another scam.

"I'd like to turn someone in. There's a warrant out for their arrest."

Damien's struggled with the knife stuck in the ground, but no matter how hard he pulled, the knife would come out. It seemed that the hours of weightlifting he'd spent at the gym had been for naught.

Amarya gazed at him hatefully and dug her heel into his hand that gripped the knife.

"You bitch," Damien laughed. "Do your 'friends' know who you truly are?"

The corner of Amary's lips quirked downward. With her other foot, she shoved the the toe of her shoe into his mouth. "You don't know what you're talking about."

Damien gagged on the mixture of dirt, gravel, and grass that covered the bottom of her shoe. With his free hand, he attempted to remove her foot from his mouth, but the strength of her leg far surpassed the meagre strength of Damien's arm.

The 911 operator at the other end of the line raised a brow. "Who is the warrant for?"

"Damien Frasier, Matthew West, Grayson Lee…"

The list went on and on. Joan had memorized all the names on the list PK had compiled for her. On it were a total of 67 names, and as she reached the end, she could hear the 911 operator furiously typing on a keyboard in attempt to keep up with everything Joan was saying.

"Joan," PK said hesitantly.

"What?"

"Amarya was on that list."

Joan frowned. "No, she wasn't. I memorized all the names on the list you gave me. I didn't see her name."

"I removed it," PK sighed.

"I don't understand," Joan shook her head.

"Theree's valid evidence to issue a warrant for her arrest. I removed her because I thought you'd wouldn't want her arrested. But I wanted you to know."

Joan chuckled humorlessly. "She broke the law. Of course we need to…" Joan faltered. She glanced at Amarya, whose innocent face was able to enrapture any passerby. Did she really want to turn her in? Joan told herself she had to. But, she couldn't bring herself to say the words.

Was Amarya truly a bad person?

She'd broken the law and deserved to go to jail, but a dam blocked the words from spilling out of Joan's throat.

"Is that all?" the operator questioned.

Joan hesitated for a moment before saying, "That's all."

In this world, Li Bo wasn't hovering over her shoulder. In this world, she wanted to believe she had friends. The concept felt strangely foreign to Joan.

The 911 operator searched the list of names Joan had given. Indeed, warrants were out for their arrest. As they checked the ages of the list of names, their eyes widened. All of them were high school students. Just what had this many high school students done to have a warrant out for their arrest?!
