Chapter 9 - What's Her Problem?

This family was made up of freaks. A daughter with no filter and a mother with no emotion made for a puzzling pair.

That being said, they had provided him with a lot of help the night before, so could he really complain?

Becca had left the room to make Alan and Anita some snacks. This led to him being left alone with the anomaly that was Anita.

"So, what's your deal?" Anita asked suddenly.

"Uh ... I don't know?" Alan responded quietly.

He wanted to ask the same thing to Anita.

"What does that mean? You randomly bust into our house all battered up and you don't have anything interesting to say?" Anita asked, clicking her tounge.

Alan didn't want to tell this girl anything about him. He was trying to find a way out of this conversation.

"Ugh, you're such a bore!" Anita groaned after a few moments of silence, popping a stick of gum into her mouth.

Her attention immediatly had diverted to her phone.

"MOM! THE WIFI IS DOWN!" Anita yelled.

"That's too bad sweetie ... why don't you talk to our guest instead?" Becca responed from the kitchen adjacent to the living room.

"I tried." Anita grumbled. "Atleast I have data"

Straight back to her phone she was.

"YOUNG LADY! I BELIVE I TOLD YOU TO TALK TO YOUR NEW FRIEND!" Becca yelled.

"How the hell did you-" Anita said, flustered by her mother's notice of her actions. She was in the kitchen with no clear view of her actions!

With no other option, Anita reluctantly put down her phone.

"For the sake of my sanity, please talk to me," Anita pleaded.

Alan nodded.

"Why don't you start off with introductions, FRIEND" Anita sneered.

This girl was pissing Alan off. Alan was on the verge of cussing this girl out.

"My name is Yuki. I ended up her because of complex circumstances" Alan explained.

"I already know all that! Tell me something new!" Anita explained.

"-"

Alan didn't want to.

"You being this lame better not be canon"

Her jokes were worse than her personality.

Alan had to give it to this girl. This was the first time Alan had been so pissed off at somebody in a while.

"What the hell is your problem?" Alan said.

Anita perked up her head.

"Why are you talking to me like you're such a snob? Your personality is revolting!"

"Woah there girly-"

"SHUT UP!"

Anita froze.

"This is more like it! Now you're atleast talking to me!" Anita exclaimed, intrigued by Alan's sudden outburst.

"MOM! TURN DOWN THE AC! IM SHIVERING HERE!" Anita screamed to Becca.

"Sweetie, you're the one that turned it on!"

Once he got that out of his system, Alan was able to calm himself.

"The hell? That was you?" Anita said, looking at Alan.

"What could you mean?" Alan said, avoiding eye contact with the person confronting him. He didn't know how she was able to connect the dots so fast.

"Nah! It was you! You were glowing blue you cheeky little lady!" Anita exclaimed.

Cheeky little lady? Anita's vocabulary was interesting. Anyway, that explained how she was able to connect him to the cold.

"Now now, don't stress our guest too much dear." Becca said, bringing a plate of delectable looking cookies into the room.

"These are reheated from last night. I hope you don't mind" Becca said.

"Oh, no worries" Alan responded. Why did she linger in the kitchen for so long if they were already made.

"Yesterday they tasted fine, but today they seem a bit funky. I can't put my finger on the difference. Well, they won't kill you atleast!" Becca said, putting down the cookies and sitting beside Alan.

"You better not be giving us rotten cookies mom" Anita said, stuffing her face with the cookies. "They taste fine to me though".

"Anita, take some cookies and step out for a moment. I would like to chat with our friend in private for a moment" Becca said.

"Fine with me" Anita said, leaving the room with her mouth still stuffed.

"Let's talk woman to woman, shall we?" Becca said quietly to Alan .

He wasn't sure if he really could do that.
