"I-If you promise never to sell me off to some old man, I will…." Kana said softly, her words greatly shocking the couple.
"Who would dare!?" Lysarith yelled out. She was angered just by the thought of someone selling a poor young girl like this. She cupped Kana's cheeks and looked it directly in the eye. "I promise you that you will live a life like any other little girl. I will protect you from all the bad things in the world." After saying this, Lysairth pulled Kana into a hug.
Kana's eyes began to water up. The warmth of the woman hugging her really broke down her defenses as she began to cry. The man smiled warmly at the scene as he watched his wife hug his new daughter.
Lysairth picked Kana up and held her in her arms. She frowned when she felt how light Kana was and decided she was going to fatten this child up so she would be too heavy to carry in the future.
