My heart pounded when the man didn't answer. I felt uncomfortable and awkward when he just stared at me.
I took a deep breath to muster the courage to speak again. Although I pitied the man when he told us about his family, I had doubts ever since we walked inside the house.
"Talk now. I know you're not telling the truth."
The man didn't blink and was just looking at me. Then I was startled when Jayden suddenly stood by my side.
"Did you call them?" He asked.
I frowned. I couldn't understand what Jayden was asking. I was more confused when the man nodded.
"Love, who did he call? What's happening?" I asked, looking at Jayden.
Jayden turned to me and smiled.
"I need you to stay here and don't go outside." He said.
I frowned again. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"Peg, please promise me." He pleaded.
I got anxious and my heart couldn't stop pounding.
