Chapter 14 - 14 The private chambers

It was really getting late and I had not set my eyes on Torren throughout the day. I didn't even know where to find him, I didn't know if he was still hurt by my words. I moved around the palace just waiting up on Torren. I had seen sir Magnus but he didn't seem to know where Torren had gone to. I was walking across Torren's chambers when I noticed his private room was unlocked. Torren had never left it unlocked and nobody had ever entered that room that I sometimes wondered if it was even kept clean.

I slowly opened the door and walked through a hallway and saw another door closed. I turned the knob and it was actually open so I walked into the room hoping to find Torren in there but when I got in, he was not there. I met a room filled with acient artifacts, scrolls and books. There was also drops of blood all over the floor leading to a pool of blood under the table where an ancient book was left open. I shivered in fear seeing the blood. Was that a human blood? I couldn't tell. I slowly moved towards the book with an intention of finding out what it was about but as I got close to the book to read it, It snapped shut on it's own. That really startled me, I stood still looking at the book and blood before I noticed a white porcelain glitter. I moved towards it and lifted it in admiration and intriguery. It was beautiful. I had never seen anything like that before, I mean a porcelain glitter.

"What are you doing in here?" a husky voice startled me and I dropped the porcelain which shattered to pieces on landing on the floor. I turned around to see Torren standing at the door with a dagger covered in blood in his hands. I was so scared and it was boldly showing on my face. I stared at him, there was no trace of friendliness on his face. He had that dangerous and evil look now.

I stared from his hands to the pool of blood to the shattered porcelain on the floor. "I said, what are you doing in here" he asked this time in a more dangerous voice and glare. "I, I, I was, was" my heart was pounding that I almost got a heartache. "I was loo, I was looking for you" I stuttered still fidgeting in fear. His stern look at me made me so uncomfortable, it reminded me that yes, I was married to the most dangerous creature I have heard of. I moved my feet in fear and felt the shattered porcelain on my leg.

"I will replace it for you I promise. Just give me time" I said trying to savage the situation. Torren slowly moved towards me and stopped few inches away from me. "How would you replace it? It has existed for hundreds of years, and it's not your normal porcelain, tell me, how will you bring it back" he still had that scary stare on his face. Right, I didn't even think of how to replace it, I didn't even think of how old it would have been, I just said I will replace it to save the situation but it really didn't save it. "Get out" Torren said in a serious and calm tone. "I am sorry I pro.." Torren quickly cut me off in a violent and dangerous tone this time "I said get out". I quickly lifted my long royal gown and ran out of the room.

I was scared and was shivering as I ran out of his chambers into the hallway leading to my chambers. I wasn't focused and then I bumped into Freya. "What the" Freya was pissed off before she noticed it was me. "Diana?" She looked at me with concern. I already had tears welling up in my eyes. "Are you okay? Is something after you?" She asked looking around as if to see if something or someone was really after me. I was almost out of breath, I didn't respond as I was trying to catch my breath before I noticed Freya was actually heading towards Torren's chambers. "Where are you headed?" I said in a shaky voice. "Searching for you, it's late. You, where have you been?" She asked instantly.

"My wife will be spending the night with me" it was Torren. Gosh what did he want now. I slowly looked back and he was standing right behind me.

"Oh, you must be lord Torren of Darca. I have heard so much about you, I am Freya Diana's best friend" She stretched out her hand to lord Torren who ignored it and took mine instead dragging towards his chambers gently. "Let us go my lady".

He dragged me into his room and shut the door. I was so scared. "I promise if you let me go back to my room I will never disturb you again" I pleaded with Torren. He didn't respond. He still had that dangerous look on his face. I was fidgeting in fear and panic when he finally came close to me. "Shut up Diana" he said and his look suddenly turned from dangerous to safe. "I should not have made you this scared" he added. "I'm sorry I was in your private room and I'm sorry I got scared of you" I said though I was still scared. He lifted my hand. "It's okay Diana, I totally understand it. Anybody would be afraid of such a dangerous vampire. But Diana you are not just anybody, you're my wife" at this point he got choked in his words. "I'm sorry, I know I scared you, I just hate it when people invade my privacy".

"It's okay Torren. I am so sorry for invading your privacy. I was just searching for you. I, I, I wanted to apologize for yesterday"

Torren stared at me "okay, then apologize" he said. I sighed, "I'm sorry" I simply said and moved a step to cover up the space between us, then I placed my head on his chest and my hands around his waist. We reconciled and started to have a normal conversation. I wanted to ask of the blood I saw earlier but I thought it would make him angry again and so I decided to keep it to myself.

"That was an ape's blood you saw back there" It was like he read my mind. I looked at him questioningly. "I supplement my thirst for human blood with that of an ape" he continued.

"Why an ape?" I asked. "Apes have human-type blood. It quenches my thirst to an extent" he responded.

"I see, so you've been hunting apes all day? and here I was thinking you've been avoiding me" I laughed calmly.

"I wasn't hunting apes all day, and yes I was avoiding you so I left to the isle of elvara" I was a bit disappointed but I didn't show it.

"I keep all my memories from years back locked inside that room" He looked at me "You know I could take you there right now if you still want to see what's there"

"No, it's fine my love. And ah, I'm sorry about that porcelain"

"It's okay, it's been there for 400 years now, it was meant to break"

I was shocked when I heard him say 400 years. I thought Torren would be around 150 years since he saved Darca 100 years ago.

"How old are you my lord?" I asked Torren staring at him.

He laughed before he responded "534 years, how old are you?"

"Way younger, I'm, I'm..." before I could finally speak, Torren cut me short. "It's okay. I don't really care".

"What will you do when I get old? Or even die, are you going to marry another girl?" I asked out of curiosity.

"No. We'll probably grow old together" he smiled as he said it. He was obviously making a joke.

"Bite me" I said sharply. Torren looked at me in confusion.

"Bite me so I can turn to a vampire and be by your side forever" I didn't realize what I was saying until I said it. Torren laughed.

"It's not an exciting existence Diana" he said.

"I don't care as long as you're with me" I was actually serious.

"You're exhausted my lady, you should sleep. And yes, something is not right about Freya. I can feel darkness around her" he said and lyed down not facing me, maybe so I won't have a chance to ask any questions. I lyed next to him pondering on his words and Kahlan's words about Freya. In no distant time I slept off. Lord Torren stared at me all through the night in affection.
