Just as he had taken a step towards her, he had heard her whisper, ''Do they all come to play with me because I am the princess? If I was not, would they still be my friends?" her tiny fingers fiddled with the fabric of her gown as she fumbled to herself.
And Rezeph wanted nothing more than reach out and hold her tightly in his arms to tell her that she was much more than being just a princess and she deserved nothing but the whole world. He wanted to assure her till the smile she had been faking stopped being fake and till her heart was assured of how lovable she was.
But he had turned around and left. Instead of following his heart, he had listened to his mind. Intending to let her have a safe and protected childhood, he never approached her.
And years after, that very little girl was holding him as if she could not bear to see him hurting.
