Chapter 25 - Agency Traitor - II

Panic was getting to her, and if none of them said anything, her brain was going to shut down. Then all of them could try and get her to speak anything because nothing is going to come out.

"Well," Clara began, " I have talked to you before when we've had many conversations so allow me to get to the point directly. Mr Montréal has made an allegation against you."

"A-allegation?" Grace started and looked back at Gavin. "About what? What have I done?"

"Agency traitor!" He spat the words as his face got red and blotchy. "You have spelt the secrets of this agency to another!"

She frowned. "What are you talking about? I have done nothing like that!"

"Yes," Clara intervened, " we would love to believe that—"

Would?!

"—But Gavin here has provided us with the evidence that you had prepared all the information for the financial quarter of this year and the financial year of the previous year. Not only have we found you going to every department at least thrice to get all of their statements, there have also been quite a few gaps in the statements that no one can trace."

"Yes, I put all of them in the suspense account." She explained without missing a beat. That was what she had been instructed to do. The amount that did not go into the suspense account and Gavin checked it. That was the only thing he did about his job.

"Suspense account?"

"When the funds do not add up on either side, you put them into the suspense account. That is what he—"

"The suspense account does not exist, grace. There is no such thing as the suspense account and the company has never instructed anyone to make one." Clara explained gently. "There is no suspense account and apparently, there is no address to the funds that have been lost."

Lost..

Funds lost…

"I-I do not get it.." she whispered, on the verge of crying in front of them. " I am not even supposed to make the financial statements according to my job description. I do them because he told me to do that." She pointed back at Gavin before continuing, "I only made the financial statements because he told me to do them. I learnt about them in college which is why I knew how to do them. It does not even look at them before submitting them and when I came up with the funds that were not matching for the agency, he told me to put them in the suspense account. That was all that I have done."

The panic was making her hands shake, the fear made her heart beat quicker by the second in her chest. She knew what they were going to excuse her for next. She had seen the funds for herself, and Grace knew that if it came to having those allegations on her, it would take her use to prove that she was not responsible for those missing funds, until then, she would be buried in death.

She had barely gotten out of the small amount of student loan she had taken. The interest rates for this one we're going to kill her.

"Please," she begged Clara to listen, "I know what you're going to say next. I have not taken a single penny except for my scenery from this firm. I have nearly done what I was told to do by my senior who has not worked half of what he was supposed to do. I have not stood in the funds, you can check my bank statements, my anything if you want, but I have not taken a single penny."

"Ms Russo," Alejandro nodded softly, "we understand."

"We do?" Gavin frowned. "But she stole from the organisation."

"Did she?" The boss turned to her boss. "because I certainly know that she did not steal anything from me."
