Chapter 1 - chapter 1The Bridge in the Rain

The evening had draped itself over Shanghai, a city always bustling with life, now in the grip of a torrential downpour. Raindrops, like shards of broken glass, fell from the heavens, relentlessly pounding the cityscape.

Yet, amid this watery onslaught, a lone figure staggered along the road, barely visible through the curtain of rain.

Her name was Stacy, a woman in her late twenties with a fiery spirit and an equally fiery temper. Beneath the stormy skies, she wobbled on unsteady legs, her high heels slipping against the rain-slicked cobblestones.

Her face, usually bright and charming, was streaked with tears, each one mingling with the rain, leaving a trail of sorrow in its wake.

Stacy was drunk. Not just from the alcohol she had consumed, but from a cocktail of emotions - anger, desperation, betrayal, and pain.

Her heart was a storm within a storm, mirroring the chaos of the world outside. The city lights shone hazily in her teary eyes, their neon glow reflecting her inner tumult.

She was lost both in her thoughts and her emotions, she could explain how much pain she felt right now.

A misstep sent her sprawling onto the wet pavement, her knees scraping against the rough stone. She winced, more from the sting of betrayal than the physical pain.

Her breath hitched as she flung away her heels, their clatter echoing through the empty streets. She, who was a lover of heels, thought of them now as a pain in the ass.

She had waited her whole life for a man who had turned out to be nothing more than a scum. The revelation was like a punch to her gut, leaving her gasping for breath.

Her entire world had crumbled around her in just a day, and all she could do was to walk, to escape, to try and put some distance between herself and the pain.

Eventually, Stacy made it to a bridge, the Huangpu river roaring beneath. She was soaked to the bone, her clothes clinging to her body, and her long brown hair plastered against her face. She shivered as the cold penetrated her bones.

She looked like a water nymph, a tragic goddess borne from the rain and the river.

"I hate you!" she screamed into the void, her voice barely audible over the rain and the river. "Why, why did you have to do this to me?" She slumped onto the ground, pulling out a flask from her purse.

She tipped it back, the liquid burning a trail down her throat, a meager comfort against the onslaught of her emotions. She prayed the drink would flush down her pains. But she felt nothing but absolute and pure pain.

With a new determination, she rose, her vision blurring and senses dulled. "It's best to end this misery," she muttered to herself, starting to climb over the bridge's railing.

She teetered on the edge, her life hanging by a thread, her heart pounding in sync with the rhythm of the rain.

Just as she was about to take the final plunge, a strong, muscular hand wrapped around her waist, dragging her back from the brink. "Let me go, you scum!" she spat, lashing out blindly, her hand connecting with a solid cheek.

A gasp echoed through the night, and Stacy turned to see a young man standing close to a car with the front lights on, his mouth agape in shock.

The hand that had saved her belonged to another man, a stranger, his features shadowed by the night.

Realization dawned on her, it wasn't who she was expecting to see, this was a total stranger, but he looked damn hot soaked in the rain.

Her heart pounded in her chest as she found herself staring into the eyes of her unexpected savior, but soon it felt like all emotions had left her eyes only pure pain was there.

"Let me go, you son of a bitch" she screamed out struggling for him to free her.

The man carried her over his shoulder as she kept thrashing against him.
