Bertha has met my friends, and they...erm... like her." Gerald instantly regretted his choice of words when Theodora's jaw ticked in displease.
Before things turned wrong, he continued, "I cannot tell my friends where I have to go and why I need to go. So I was asking Bertha to tell my friends that I will be accompanying her and her aunt to the mainland to meet her relatives.
That is a believable lie, right? But she is not ready to help me."
