Gerald woke up, startled at the loud knocks on the door. As soon as his eyes shot open, a wave of pain hit his head directly. Wincing, he rubbed his eyes to get rid of the remnants of sleep.
His body was aching, and he felt like he was not sleeping but working the whole night like a slave.

The person knocking on the door must have gotten tired of waiting because instead of the knocks, he heard the light padding of feet fading outside the door.
Thank God he didn't need to open the door when he was not in that condition.
