Bertha and Gerald waited to hear Isabella's decision if she would help Bertha or not. Bertha had told them about Lady Cordelia's condition and how she had nowhere else to go to get help. But all this time, she and Gerald kept Bertha's and her so-called aunt's identities a secret.
Isabella was in a dilemma. She sympathized with the woman, but she also didn't want to risk drawing attention to her and her knowledge of medicine. What if that woman told the world about her?
Isabella couldn't risk drawing attention to them, especially to Oscar, when he already had his family to deal with.
Oscar sensed her dilemma. "Isabella, can I have a word with you please?"
Bertha looked alarmed at that. What did he want to discuss now?
Isabella nodded her head before following Oscar out of the hut.
"Don't tell me to help her, Oscar." She said as soon as they were out of the earshot of Gerald and Bertha.
