He was still sitting on the chair on the balcony, and he even held a cigarette in his right hand. He didn't see a "no smoking" sign on the building, and that's why he didn't think he was breaking the rules when he used a lighter to light his cigarette.
He had missed lunch because of what had happened today, and now all he could do was smoke the tip of a lit cigarette and inhale tobacco smoke. It wouldn't be able to fill his empty stomach, but at the very least, he would be able to divert his entangled thoughts as the flames continued to burn the tobacco.
It was not common for him to smoke when he didn't even want to go to sleep. Normally, he would just use a cigarette to get rid of his nightmares, but he was actually not a heavy smoker who couldn't get rid of nicotine.
He was not addicted to cigarettes, and that was why his body was not always enveloped by the smell of smoke.
