"I don't think I can join you. I just remembered that Noel invited me to join his club."
For a long period of time, Matthew stared at Lilly. It took a whole amount of self-restraint from him to hide his jealousy.
"What club?" He asked in a passive tone of voice when what he wanted was to ask her 'who the fudge Noel is and what's so important about him that you'd refuse to join me on my business trip?'
"A reading club," she mumbled under her breath. Noel didn't invite her to be in a club. She just heard the girl who came forward after the orientation, asking Noel to join their club. She didn't even know if there was a club or if it was just a line to talk to Noel.
But when Matthew asked her to invite her mother, the image of her coming out of his office and the time when she asked her mother about it and how she lied blatantly came to mind, and the idea of traveling with Matthew was no longer appealing.
