"Is this enough mint, mama?" Rowan offered his mother the clumps of green leaves he cradled in his arms. When Hazel snickered, he narrowed his eyes and decided to tattle on her and Violet both. "I picked it all by myself and they didn't help me at all. They just bossed me around and watched."
Rowan's mother looked up from where she was cutting the lemons in half. He was a little sad that the tiny suns had been split into two pieces, but he was excited to try whatever it was they were making with them, so it was okay.
The corners of his mother's lips twitched into a smile but she forced them back down again. "Oh, Rowan…that's not mint. That's crabgrass. Your sisters have been teasing you again."
Violet and Hazel started giggling behind him, not even trying to hold it in anymore. He turned to glare at them both, his little cheeks burning as they laughed even harder at his expression.
