Chapter 53 - Exhaustion and Affection (2/3)

In his slumber, Alaric must have felt Rowan poking around where he shouldn't be. His weakened spirit pushed back against Rowan's energy, and out of courtesy, Rowan retreated.

When Alaric began to stir, Rowan was loathe for him to awaken so soon. He tried on a new song, hoping to soothe his brother's restless spirit with the sound of his voice.

Rowan still had plenty of magic in his body from his encounter with Wren, and he drew on his reserves to infuse the song with what he hoped was a sense of peace strong enough to act as a balm for the exhausted man who probably wouldn't appreciate it anyway. The horse swiveled its head toward Rowan as he cast his melody into the clearing, blanketing it with stillness through the dulcet rise and fall of his voice.

Rowan rarely sang for another person without death involved. Aside from the occasional song for Loma, Wren was truly his only exception.
