Rose was utterly speechless to hear all about it. Her mother had just told her that she had been lying to her all along. The lie was about her father, who died when she was still in the womb. And all the photos of her father were burned.
However, what her mother said after that made Rose even more confused,
"All this time, I didn't say anything about your father. That's because I lost some of my memories of the past… I don't remember anything about him."
Molly's words are like thunder in Rose's ear. How could her mother lose her memories of her past life with her father? It doesn't make sense at all. In fact, Rose thought her mother was discussing the plot of the short story she was going to write.
