The old general had his servants wash, clothe and feed Mei Hong, then let her sleep for half a day. After the lady had recovered a bit, she was asked into the general's quarters, to drink tea.
On her arrival, old Wang general had all his soldiers and servants clear the room, save for himself and shen Yating. Mei Hong carefully balanced the tray and marched up to him, then set it in front of both men.
"Sit, let's have a chat." Old Wang general said, helping himself to a cup of tea. He gestured his lieutenant to place his sword aside and sit beside him.
"I could never general." She said, calling him what all the other women in the Wang residence called him.
The old man gave her a blank look, "I turned down my three drinking buddies, won't you humor me?" Although his tone sounded whimsical, there was nothing jovial in his eyes.
