The day quickly bled into the evening, and Wang Tengfei had not arrived. Standing beside the open window, Mei Deng patiently waited for the general to arrive, so they could discuss when he could leave.
Da-Xia took an afternoon nap and hence was still asleep on the bed. Mei Deng recalled how she had asked him about when they would go home, and spoke about Bingwen at length.
"Ah, he's finally returned." Yu Xiaoguang announced in relief, he turned to take his exit, only for someone to walk into his room.
"What are you doing here?" Yu Xiaoguang asked in a flat tone, staring at Tingting's handmaid, Ju.
The woman kept her head down and her palms closed against each other, as though there was something inside them.
"Madam Wang has summoned you to her quarters." Ju announced, keeping her eyes trained on the floor.
"Me? What does she want?"
