Chapter 281 - Her Bitter End

Yu Xiaoguang followed the general out of the village head's residence, with a lingering look of uncertainty laced in his eyes. Once they were out of hearing reach, he latched onto the General's sleeve.

"Mhm?"

Looking here and there, he lowered his voice, "That boy, there's something not right with him, and those old women are hiding something too."

"That much is obvious, rather than stay and wait for something to happen. I'd prefer it if you treat my wife as soon as possible, preferably before night fall." He said in return, reducing the speed of his steps, till they were alined with the other man's shorter strides.

Still holding onto the General's sleeve he noted, "It looks like a ghost town, the houses all look deserted, and the streets are too empty. What do you think happened? A plague?"

The general narrowed his gaze at the broken houses, particularly at the eyes that peered out of small windows and holes in the walls.
