The supporters for the Empress and the Noble Consort were split, and caused great deal of difficulty and strife.
Those who sided with the Empress were reserved and upheld tradition. In rank, the Empress outranked the consort and had the right to discipline her.
However, the opposing side was not convinced and saw the Empress behavior as an abuse of power and solicited for the consort to be reinstated as a compensation.
But the Emperor had not said a single word, and with each second the Emperor spared in silence, the egos of some figures continued to be trampled on.
