Chereads / My Masked Lover / Chapter 36 - Conscious Sin

Chapter 36 - Conscious Sin

"I think you did."

Strange.

The only time I talked of my desire to watch the stars from the roof was during a conversation I had with Marli. She was the one I told about my dreams.

Could it be possible?

No.

I don't think so. Had I said anything concerning my dreams to see the stars, I would have recalled it. Things like that aren't easily forgettable.

"During one of our numerous conversation days?" I raised a doubting brow.

"I think you did. But if you didn't, I apologize for saying you did say that. You can't blame me for saying stuff that isn't related, at all."

"It's okay," I finally look up at the sky, "this is beautiful."

" Indeed, it is." He answered without missing a beat.

"You think so also? " I turned to him, only to find him intently looking at my face. "What's wrong?"

I touched my face to check if my mask has gone out, but I found out it was still there.

I heaved a sigh of relief at that.

For a moment there, I thought my identity has been exposed.

"You are Just cute." He said as he locked eyes with mine.

"What— What are you— what are you talking about?" Blinking, I sputtered.

"Nothing." He shrugged, but Still kept his attention on me.

I felt different. It seems as if something changed, but I can't tell what it was that changed. I felt the change in the air.

I felt it around us. I felt its cocoon of warmth. I felt it all.

"You're the cutest Human I've ever met. The first day I saw you, I wanted to wrap you up, and take you to a place where no one can ever touch you."

As he said those words, he leaned closer. "Your eyes tell the entire story. You might not know this, but I think I've —"

He didn't get to complete his words before I kissed him. I don't know why I did it, but it felt right at the moment.

It's felt like something magnetic is drawing me close to him. It felt right. My heart accepts.

I pecked him on the mouth and made you withdraw, but he tightly held to my neck. Lightly bitting my Lower lip to get me to open my mouth, he slipped his tongue into my mouth.

A moan escaped my mouth at the sensation of another's tongue on mine. It felt strange at first, but when he started twirling my tongue with his, I went crazy.

I moaned with restraints as I latched on to him, as if afraid he might leave me, and take the tantalizing feelings away with him when he does so.

I allowed myself to get carried away. The mask made me uncomfortable, and I tried to remove it.

Sly!

My mind seemed to shout at that moment.

His name made me snap my eyes open. It felt like a cold bucket of water was poured on me.

Gods!

I can't believe I cheated on my husband.

I hastily rose from his lap — when did I get there — and turned my face to the other side?

"What's wrong?" He stood up and touched me.

I jerked at his touch.

No, I can't let him touch me. I can't sink back to the world of no return.

I created a distance between us, "There's nothing wrong." I adjusted my mask before I faced him, "I need to go."

"What's wrong, Lys?" He tried to touch me, but I ran from there.

Thankfully, I know the way back to the ballroom. It didn't take me long in reaching the dance floor.

I can't stay here.

With that thought in mind, I ran out of there as fast as I could.

"What's wrong? You're back early." Marli gave me a once over.

"Nothing." I flop down on the cushion as I slowly removed the suit and mask.

"You can't tell me it's nothing, and you're behaving this way." She raised a doubtful brow, "what's wrong with you?"

"Nothing, okay? I told you there is nothing wrong with me!" I sit up.

"There is. You need to tell me what's wrong. Two heads are better than one. I can see the wheels running in your mind."

" You will hate me." I lower my head in shame.

"Why will I do that? Moreover, who told you, I love you in the first place?"

"I kissed him." I cover my face with my palm, "I kissed Thor."

I tightly closed my eyes, despite having already covered them with my palms. I patiently wait for the condemnation I know is about to come.

Marli is sure to bite my ears off should she get the full gist of everything that happened. I know she won't condone my actions.

Oh my god.

What have I consciously done?

I don't take alcohol, or I would have blamed it on the effect of what alcohol did to me.

"It's about time." She said words I wasn't expecting, "I thought my ship won't sail."

"What do you mean." I open my eyes, and glared at her, "what do you mean by your words?"

"I saw it coming. The way you talk about Thor like he put the stars in the sky was enough to make me put two and two together. You love him, Lee."

" But—"

" Are you worried about your husband? What's to say he's not also cheating on you?"

" I don't think he is."

Had this been the case, his workers would have known of her.

The surprise on their faces two days ago was enough to tell me something; Sly hasn't brought someone, he's dating, to the office.

"Don't defend someone you don't know well. He might be your husband, but that doesn't mean you know everything about him."

"But —"

" Don't worry yourself about him. This is your life, Lee. You are free to do whatever it is you want with it. Don't listen to anyone, and don't try to please anyone."

Despite her words, I can't help, but feel guilty.

" But —"
