Luna's shaking hand passed the package of food to that man who stepped forward, closing the distance between them.
"Here is your order, Sir." That man gave her some money before snatching the food. In a minute, his figure disappeared behind one of the old buildings.
Experiencing that uncomfortable moment, a goosebump chilled Luna's spine. She rapidly escaped that place with the motorcycle. In a short time, the vehicle carried her back to her work place.
As usual, only two visitors or three visited the restaurant. Most of them were those who resided around the restaurant. After serving them, Luna did other work in the kitchen while Huanran and her mother made soup.
Doing her job, the face of the tattooed man reflected in her remembrance. And a question came up. Was that man one of their customers? It didn't mean Luna judged people from their looks yet that man's appearance represented the mafia she used to watch in the movie. Today she might be safe but who could guarantee that she would be fine if she met that person again?
Her eagerness to tell Huanran what she had been through today rose up when there were only two of them in the restaurant. The last visitor left a few minutes ago.
"I wonder if you know all our customers, such as their address, identity, etc."
"You're kidding. How can I recognize all of our customers? I have no capability of doing that, identifying all people who have ordered our food. I don't care who orders our food, what their background is, as long as I can sell more food and run this business, that is what matters to us." She rant out. "Wait! Why did you ask me this?" Huanran asked her back; her forehead creased in suspicion.
"I met a weird man today. From his appearance, he is like a gangster man or mafia boss. Will you keep assigning me to deliver food to an unfamiliar address like a remote place?"
"Are you scared?"
"No...I am not. However, …."
"Then, can we skip this conversation?"Luna ducked her chin, stating her agreement. "I am tired. I have cooked all day long. Could you help with the cleaning?" Luna chose to shut her mouth and did whatever her boss instructed her to do.
The day changed into night so fast. The driver picked her up from her workplace as always. Her daily routine only took her from the house to the restaurant or vice versa.
The next day, she came to work earlier as she had promised grandma Li for the gown fitting. Luckily, the owner of the restaurant allowed her to leave earlier. She was also fortunate today that she didn't have to deal with food delivery. Luna was just busy with food service in the restaurant.
"You have an appointment with your grandma, don't you?" Huanran reminded her. Glancing at the clock sticking on the wall, Luna gave her a nod. "You can go. Just leave the rest of the work with me."
"Thank you so much. I am leaving."
Taking her handbag she jogged outside toward the driver who had been ready after bidding goodbye to the owners. They headed to the boutique grandma Li has been waiting for.
Grandma Li happily welcomed her in the lobby along with the other employees there. Joy garnished their faces with her coming. One of the girls in white t-shirt and black skirt led her inside the room.
As soon as they got in the room, that girl showed Luna two beautiful gowns, the plain red and the pink one. Those gowns were all gorgeous.
The first one in red fell plainly reaching her thigh with less sleeves. The neck formed a round shape with white pearls around it. With her tall body, this would fit her perfectly. The second one in pink had laces on the lowest part and short sleeves. The gown just reached her knees.
"You can come this way to fit the gown. Miss Yang…" Luna jolted back to reality. Whether it was the gown that melted her or grandma Li's act that stunned her in silence for a while. Never in a million years did she think that someone would treat her this nicely. The tears almost trickled but she managed to hold it.
"Yes...you can fit the gown inside this room, Miss." Luna tried the gown and got out of the room to ask grandma Li's opinion who had entered the room.
"You look so gorgeous, dear." Grandma Li's compliment boosted her confidence. Her lips formed a small smile. Luna then wore another gown in pink. "This one also looks great on you. I'll take both of them for you."
"I think one is enough, grandma."
"It's better to have both." Grandma Li then returned to the lobby.
Luna was unable to refuse what had been decided by grandma Li. That woman bought those two gowns for her.
Changing into her own clothes, Luna walked through the corridor toward the lobby where grandma Li was. Unexpectedly, she met someone she was familiar with, Ana Wang, Danish's girlfriend.
"Glad to meet you here, Miss Yang," she said. A mocking smile blossomed between her lips. Luna still remembered the last time they encountered, on the road when Luna had to struggle with the motorcycle. Her eyes shifted to the paper bag in Luna's hand. "Congratulations on your engagement, anyway." Luna was clueless if it was a heartfelt congratulations from her mouth.
"Thank you," Luna answered, she suppressed the tension in her heart, receiving her gaze. As though this girl in front of her had the power to control her or whoever stood before her, Luna felt nervousness coursing through her body.
Ana pushed her head closer to Luna 's ear and whispered in a soft yet intimidating tone, "finally, you've successfully snatched someone's possession." Luna jerked back in shock.
"Luna...are you done?" Grandma Li saved her from Ana's next intimidation.
"Yes, grandma…. I have to go." Luna moved but before her feet went farther, Ana's voice ceased hers. "I won't let anyone steal mine." Her words cut Luna deeper. Luna strode the hallways with her words playing in her head.
"Luna...are you fine?" Her mouth shut to grandma Li's query. Her response was in the form of a smile. "What did she say to you?"
"Whom are you talking about?"
"Miss Ana Wang,"
"She said nothing but to congratulate me."
"Are you sure?" Luna's expression altered. She knew so well that she couldn't lie in front of grandma Li. But, telling her that Ana threatened her would only grow her hate toward that girl. Conflict between them would only ruin Danish's relationship with his grandma. No matter how Danish treated her, Luna didn't want Danish to be in a hard situation because of her.
"Grandma...Danish had agreed with the wedding, there is nothing we should worry about." Her convincing words put a smile on grandma Li's face.
They marched out of the boutique. The car made its halt in front of them. Before Luna climbed into the car, the corner of her eye caught Danish and Ana together with Ana in his arms. They romance was just displayed before her eyes. That twitched her heart.
"Luna...what are you looking at?"
"Nothing…" Luna briskly got in the car and asked the driver to go as she wouldn't let grandma Li see what she just saw.
