"They are chasing us!" the words came out with shock and fear in the eyes of Ophelia while Olivia's eyes darkened.
Instead of fear, her eyes filled with hatred while she closed her eyes and tried to hear closely. With the sound of hooves and their movements there would be approximately 10-12 horses and most of them were covering the paths going to towns.
She had used this secret passage a few times but she was too young back then. She had already taken the main path that led to town but she had heard her guard telling her that there is a shortcut to the town.
But they never used it because one needed to cross the dark woods for it and there were wild animals there.
"Oli, we shall go back to the hill and hide there until they leave." Olivia shook her head.
Though there might be a chance that they would not look for them on the hills since horses could not climb on it. They did not know how much time it would take to leave this area.
They both would die of thirst and anger with always a chance of getting caught.
"No! We will take the path of woods! I am sure they would never look for two weak princesses in the dark forest where many wild beasts reside!`` Although they were looking for them, Olivia felt that they were not serious.
They must be sure that even if they have run away, they would not be able to leave this area unscathed.
"But.." with her eyes scanning the area, Ophelia was not sure, even the look of the woods were enough to scare her.
The dark woods with no amount of light even if it was day time due to large and long trees that cover it completely, the strange sounds could be heard from it even at the day time. Would they even be able to cross it alive if they entered there?
She gulped looking at the mere sight when she felt her sister's hands on her back.
"You have to trust me for this. You do trust me, right?" a smile formed on the face of Olivia when she saw her sister nodding her head in a heartbeat.
She knew that Ophelia was worried but still was ready to trust her when she had nothing left.
"Stay with me and do not let my hands go. We will take the dark path once the knights are a bit away." nodding her head, Ophi held her hands tightly and followed her sister with closed eyes.
"Why are we even wasting our time here. I am sure that they died in the fire anyway. Haven't you seen their burnt clothes in the fire!"
"Tsk! So you want to say that part of their burnt clothes remained but there were no bones left?"
The way they were shouting in loud voices to make sure their partners would be able to hear them, gave both of them a chance to listen to their every word.
"Even if they have run away somehow, do you think those weaklings would be able to survive in this forest?"
"Ha! The point is even if they saved themselves, wouldn't they come to cry in front of their master. After all, the princess was in love with him. If not for her, the master would have never.." feeling the intense eyes of their leader, the knight stopped in mid of the sentence but it was enough for everyone to deduce what he was trying to say
Many of them chuckled and a few of them sneered at the foolishness of the sisters but they all were annoyed to spend their day here.
"Fine! We all will look for three days. If we are still not able to find them, we will quit and return back!" a roar of cheers and daughters welcomed the decision as they all rode their horses away from there, making sure that they both were not there.
Taking a breath of relief, Ophelia came out of the shrubs she was hiding behind. Her face was dark and her eyes had turned red!
"What did.." before she could speak up further Olvia dragged her back on the ground.
"What happened, why did you stop?" her cold eyes were still scanning them. She did not care what they were saying or thinking, what was important was to make sure that they would not be able to feel their presence.
Her heart thumped and felt it come to her throat when the last horse in which their leader was sitting stopped and he turned back to look in their direction.
She pulled her sister and covered her with her own body in case they found their presence and attacked suddenly.
"What happened, are we not going the other way?" asked a knight when he felt the gaze of his master still lingering at the hilly area with a frown.
There was no way that the girl would have climbed it. He had heard that the younger prince had never walked without velvet carpets. How would she be able to do it!
Yet the way his master was looking at the path with calculating eyes left a thread of doubt in the heart of others too who all stopped and turned to look at him.
"Are we thinking of going to the hill, master!" thump! If that happened! Olivia could feel the shivering of her sister and her eyes hardened.
No! Till she was alive, she would never let her sister get hurt! She had promised their parents. She held tightness on her trembling sister as she forced her to look into her eyes.
"If they come this way, make sure to run away while I will distract them by making noise on the opposite side. I promise I will never let them come close to you.
I would save you even if I have to sacrifice my life, Ophelia, do not worry."
