Yasmin phoned Declan at the end of the class. "Hi…" She cleared her throat nervously and asked, "Are you busy?"
Declan had a satisfying smile on the corners of his lips. He closed the laptop and leaned back in the chair, ready to chat with her.
She rarely phoned him while he was at work. How could he possibly ignore her?
"Hmm… I was busy but not now."
"Oh! So, you are taking a break."
"Uh-huh, resting and talking to you."
"I see." She pressed her lips together. "Um… I am thinking about studying at Lisa's place tonight," she finally said, with her trembling heart, her fingers crossing.
Declan's expression froze. He stiffened in his seat. "You want to spend the night away from home?" he exclaimed, in disbelief.
He suddenly felt empty in his chest. Her words brought back memories of that dreadful month she spent apart from him. During those days, he had to take the help of alcohol to fall asleep every night.
