Julia felt her heart pounding in her throat. An unknown fear crept up her chest.
Declan knew the information would disturb her. He didn't want to break her heart. But it was necessary to tell her everything to keep her safe. The last bit of hesitation in his mind disappeared.
"The cops killed two gangsters in the shootout. Those two men were identified as Alexander's security guards. They helped a wanted criminal get Sean out of jail."
Julia covered her mouth, her face pale in shock. She could feel the shivers running up and down her arms.
"The police are interrogating him too," Declan added. "Tell me if you have seen anything suspicious. Try to remember."
Julia had not yet recovered from her shock. She opened and closed her mouth as if trying to say something, but no sound came out. It was like she had lost the ability to speak.
