Earl didn't expect it was coming. He speechlessly stared at him, his mouth hanging open. He never imagined even in his wildest dreams, that Declan would ever thank him.
Did he hear it right? Or was his ear ringing?
He concluded that he had wrongly heard it. The man, who had threatened to kill him the night before, could not possibly thank him, could he?
'Declan must be saying beat you, but I heard thank you. What a bizarre! I am losing my mind.'
"I couldn't imagine what would have happened to her if you had not found her." Declan's gentle and calm tone, loaded with gratitude, stunned him yet again.
It turned out that his ears were not ringing. He had not wrongly heard it either. Declan was genuinely expressing his gratitude.
