Chapter 34 - The Fall IV

I watched Rose scoff, unafraid at all at the anger coating Nick's voice. If anything, she was incited the more, her eyes flashing with defiance, her hands placed firmly on her waist like an urban housewife spoiling for a fight. What was her problem? Even if I was a slave, it was not mannerful to come into a pack doctor's house unannounced and uninvited, and begin to cause havoc. That would attract some penalty on its own, well it had held up in my own pack, didn't know about it here.

"It seems you have forgotten your place, Rose… eh, so soon?" Nick stated, stepping into the room. It seemed to me that he had grown taller in the space of an hour or more of not seeing him. His ever smiling face was now gone, such that there wasn't even a trace of humor on the contours of his face; rather, together, thay all communicated anger. I would have been scared if I was Rose.

"I'm sorry about that. I had just come to collect the girl." Rose enthused in a low tone, and I, with wide eyes, smiled. Thought as much. The doctor of the pack was accorded a high respect, at least for being the healer of their people. I was happy that the same rule was prevalent here.

"You had come to get her, or you had come to injure her the more? Didn't you notice that she was wounded? Oh, what am I saying, how could you; when your mind is perpetually filled with how to do evil to these young ones. If someone didn't know better, they would assume that your are jealous at them for their still blooming beauty." Nick said, taunting the other woman, his now cold voice, acidic. I haven't seen him in this fashion before.

"Keep it up Rose, who knows the goddess might look upon your 'good deeds' and deprive you the pleasure of having a mate and kids."

I saw a flash of sadness and sorrow cross the features of Rose, but it disappeared as fast as it had appeared, and again, she was that stern wicked witch that I have always known. But I was sure now that she was still emotion-full, not some robot. I also considered her change in behavior possible if her mate comes around.

"You can't make me feel guilty for doing my job in the pack." Rose retorted, and Nick scoffed.

"Your duty? Get a better job, Rose, and stop deluding yourself. You are not helping yourself and your life by engaging in some inhuman activity." Nick said. His voice has now quietened. I am sure that he was trying to advise Rose, but unfortunately the latter had tightened the reins on her emotions and wouldn't be listening to anything he was saying, if anything, her resolve on her stand would be more stronger. I know that because I have been there before, not as a slave mistress of course, but as a blooming teenage girl who had many unmet wishes.

I was right well, for she laughed sarcastically the next second. Nick wasn't stunned. It was like he had expected it. The look on his face had switched from anger to a one of anger to a one of pity, unchanged by the tenacity of her laughter. He must have known her before. I concluded, watching them both from the couch. While they had bantered, i had found a way to relax more into the couch, knowing that in some minutes, i would be out of here. I just had the feeling that Nick wouldn't be able to stop Rose from taking me away.

"I have told you Nick, stop trying to make me feel guilty by your speeches. I don't need them. They wouldn't stop me from doing my work either. I had only apologized for walking into your house and causing turmoil. That's it. Nothing more. If you are done with the speech, check on the slave to see if she needs anything else to alleviate whatever pain she might be feeling, because she is coming with me now. She has work to do before the Alpha comes for her." Rose said, and I gulped down nothing, remembering the end of the day before it had even come. I was to become the newest Alpha slave, or according to Rose, his newest slut. The thought brought shivers down my spine. But I had to do this. I just hope that my thoughts were right this time-that it was better to be taken by him, than to be left in the fields.

Nick was silent, his shoulders drooped as his gaze shifted to me. He was apologizing for his inability to stop her at this time, but I just shrugged, understanding the concept of the whole thing. I had to go, but first I had to check on something that has been bothering me.

"Nick, can I use the bathroom first?" I asked, standing up from the couch, without much struggle. With the passing minute, the pain on my ankle was easing.

"She calls you by your name? The audacity…" Rose enthused, and I bit my lips, cursing myself at my lack of insensitivity. I should have remembered my place at least with the evil witch here. Now, I'm sure that she would double up my punishment on whatever work she was talking about that I had to do.

"That's my name. Not yours. Olivera, you can use the bathroom." Nick interpolated, and I nodded, before walking out of the room with my head bowed.

"Shit…!" I muttered, as I beheld the blood stains on my underwear. What the hell! This must have been the reason why I had been cranky this morning, must be the reason why I had been so angry at Jeremy. I was on my period. Oh no. I thought, wondering if Nick had some sanitary pads.

What should I do now?

"Olivera…" I heard Nick call, and signed, biting my lips. How would I tell him this? It was embarrassing.

"Olivera…are you okay?" he asked, and I nodded mechanically, forgetting that there was a door separating us from each other; he couldn't see me or my nodding motion.
