"Why did you come back for me?" Cora sputtered, tears soaking Theo's fur. "You shouldn't have come back for me!" He let her press down on it, smoothing it back against his face as she nuzzled into him, her body saying what her words were not: she was happy, she was relieved, she had missed him.
He groaned with the way her touch ignited and soothed. She was okay. His mate was okay. He had been gone entirely too long, and she was caked in dried blood that made her smell wrong, but she was okay.
"We do not have much time," Grayson said from behind him, and Theo restrained a growl. His lip curled silently, body trembling with the instinct to attack.
Grayson had manipulated, had stolen, had put his hands on Cora… he was not to be trusted. And yet here he was, poised as if he were on their side.
