Theo and Cora walked back out from the trees hand-in-hand with the rest of their party a few steps behind them. Cora's wings were folded behind her as she had not yet learned how to make them disappear as quickly as they came. But the contrast between hers and the branched, torn wings of the Camazotz was striking. The ancients were truly hurt. It was obvious now.
When its black eyes found her once again, the Camazotz in front gave an angry shriek and began advancing toward them with the rest of his companions at his side. They were hunched and awkward lumbering across the ground with their elongated arms and legs.
