Chapter 22 - [Bonus chapter] How Indeed...

It was a remote neighborhood that Cynthia's Tesla had never driven in before. But her Tesla was not the only car driving. The Evans's sole heir was accompanied by two black cars that she could not name because of how dark it was and in front of her Tesla, George's Porcha was leading the way.

She threw a glance back and double-checked what she thought she saw when she first passed by the cars in the back.

They had no license plate numbers. They were completely black.

She looked at her driver next, Ben had a stoic expression on his face, it was the first time she saw him without his black sunglasses since it was the middle of the night. His eyes looked like they wouldn't miss anything around them.

She did not miss how George subtly took her driver to the side and whispered a few things near his ear. She knew that he was giving the driver with a military background a healthy heads up, if Ben suspected something while they drove, Cynthia had a feeling that he would take things into his own hands to guarantee her safety.

She knew what it was all about.

When George mentioned seeing her ex behind prison bars, she knew that the cell he would be inside would have nothing to do with one that the police would take him to. She was the heiress to Evans's title after all. These were topics that she covered with George a long time ago.

While the Evans family shone like the sun over the elite society for a century, the Robinsons were the night that guaranteed a complete cycle of protection around the family that they had vowed to protect until the end of times.

Cynthia had never shown an interest in learning about the details of such dynamics, but she was not a silly little girl who didn't know how the business world worked. Mega companies like Evans-soft had to have long hands that reached everywhere and a scary face when they wanted to. She knew that the Robinsons were never involved in anything wrong or fishy, their records were as clean as the Evans household's records. But she knew that the Robinsons both dominated and intimidated when it was needed.

If the Evans family heirs were the lords and the ladies of the day, then the Robinson family heirs were the lords and the ladies of the night. It was both necessary and inevitable.

"Are we there yet," Cynthia's feet were becoming easily numb nowadays, she wanted to get out of the car already.

"…I am only following Mr. Robinson's car, Ms. Evans,"

Cynthia groaned.

"Looks like he's slowing down to park the car, Ms. Evans,"

She sighed in relief this time. "Finally," she murmured.

Ben opened his door and was about to go open Cynthia's door but he froze midway. Cynthia was about to open her door when George came into her view and opened it for her. She took George's gloved hand as he helped her out of the car.

Revenge started feeling heavy inside of her.

She placed one foot out and then George tenderly pulled the rest of her body out. She had a white GUCCI tweed v-neck jacket on and her pink lipstick glittered under the dim street light. The place was completely secluded. She moved her hair away from her shoulder.

"I'll go in alone," she said matter-of-factly.

George was very silent, it was something that he expected, he would be close to her at all times but it bothered him that she went and got dressed insisting on meeting her ex right away. George could not change her mind about it. He planned to have her come here in the morning, not like this.

"How dare you put a mark on George's handsome face?" Cynthia's voice was low and soft as she met her ex's gaze.

Once again, it was disturbing that Henry preferred the situation they were currently in over the situation that brought him to this state in the first place. He'd welcome being in a cell every night so long as that would get George's filthy claws off of the mother of his son.

"Haaah.. Cynthia... What are you doing to me?... To us... This isn't you!" He got up and clutched the bars of his cell.

"You have absolutely no sense of shame, do you?" She truly wondered, not wearing a mask for once. The tired Cynthia staggered and then leaned against the wall.

Henry was about to explode seeing her this tired when she should be doing nothing else but resting. It was all because of George, her tears… were they because of George too?

"Did you cry for him while pregnant with my son? DID YOU!"

*Bang!*

*Bang!*

Henry's hands hit the cell bars and they rattled out loud, but Cynthia didn't even flinch. This quickly became a part of her revenge plan even if she was improvising. She took a breath to go into the role.

"Why don't you ask your precious wife about my tears if you care so much?"

It was like somebody hit the off switch inside of Henry. His body visibly relaxed and he was back to clutching the bars instead of hitting them.

"... What do you mean,"

"Why don't you ask her?" She defied him. He slowly but surely looked like a ghost again. But she was not done, "You know, you call a person your best friend… all the betraying aside… She never really knew me..." she concluded.

"...I do, I do know you… and do you see this place that he put me in and dragged you to? Do you see what kind of person you're getting involved with? Does this sit well with you?"

Cynthia's eye twitched.

Maybe it was the long day, maybe it was her conning ex-best friend, maybe it was all the piano... Or maybe it truly was the fact that she didn't have time to understand how she felt about George's involvement in her revenge plan.

It was the first time that Cynthia felt just a tiny bit crazy in the head.

"Why should it not sit well with me, huh? Why do I have to be the angel that's surrounded by demons like you and her… or the heroine in the land of villains!?"

"This is not about your fuc*king fantasy novels! This is real shi*! You're inside the undergrounds right now; the Robinsons are the fuc*ing demons…" he trailed off when she closed her ears with both of her hands and shook her head over and over and over again.

A shiver ran through Henry's spine.

"H-hey, it's okay, easy…"

"Are you done cursing in front of him?" Her hands cradled her pregnant belly.

He nodded softly, her protectiveness tugged on the strings of his heart, and for a moment, a whole different future flashed in front of his view.

He was holding Cynthia's hand on one of the nights when a full moon was shining over the garden in the Evans' mansion, he'd pull her closer to him but instead of smashing her body against his, he'd gently enjoy the feeling of having their son in her belly between them.

"How did we end up here, Cynthia?"
