Chapter 8 - Salt and sugar look the same

The Qin's Mansion.

Mia was lying on her stomach on the bed, scrolling on her tablet in front of her. She was reading reviews about the restaurant that she has narrowed down for tonight's dinner. It was one of Glarious Han's Group's many restaurants, named Scrumptious Restaurant. The restaurant was newly opened, and it served mainly South East Asian cuisines.

"Brother Ethan must be proud of himself, his restaurant is well received, and got a five star review by that famous blogger, EatwithSha." She rolled around on the bed, now lying on her back, holding the tablet in the air. "EatwithSha is from Thailand, and she has wide knowledge about South East Asian cuisine, so to get a five star review from her is an achievement." Mia couldn't stop but comment, she was proud of her brother.

She scrolled the tablet to read more reviews about the restaurant and was very satisfied with it, but she stopped and pondered for a while. "Phoenix is from Country B, she mustn't have much experience with South East Asian cuisine. When I eat breakfast with her before, she looks like someone who can eat anything. I can't believe she can eat a lot, but still managed to look like a model. I am jealous of her." Mia smiled, remembering the girl that she met the other day while pouting her mouth.

After being satisfied with her choice, Mia got off the bed and walked out her room to find her brother Ashton.

*knock

*knock

"Brother? Are you in there? This is your cute little sister ~." she said cheekily.

After a minute, the door opened to present Ashton in his home clothes, holding a book.

Without giving a chance for Ashton to say anything, Mia started to speak like a torpedo while walking inside her brother's room leisurely, "Brother, I have chosen the restaurant for tonight's dinner. The Scrumptious Restaurant. Have you been there? I read the reviews on the internet, and everybody was singing praises for the restaurant. They all say that all the foods served there is really delicious, and the ambiance is really good too. I heard the Green Curries are to die for, it doesn't matter if it is chicken, fish or prawns. Ah! And the mango sticky rice looks so delicious. I must have that for dessert."

Ashton just shook his head with Mia's endless babbling, he just let his sister walk into his room and sat on the comfortable sofa inside.

"You can have everything you want, Mia. I'll call Ethan to book a room for tonight's dinner. I'll tell him to reserve those dishes for you. Is there anything else you want?"

"Well, the Vietnamese rice paper roll looks healthy and I really want to try Pho, too." Mia said sheepishly, but then frowned, 'Assam laksa sounds delicious too, but I can't eat everything, or I'll get fat.' Mia was in a dilemma.

Ashton just chuckled, knowing what was currently going on in his sister's mind. "There, there, don't think too hard, we can all order different dishes and I'll let you taste my food later too." Ashton said, patting her sister's head.

"Thank you, brother. You're the best. Wait, do you think I can ask Phoenix to have a taste of her food too? But she eats a lot. I don't think she'll be willing to share her food with me. Oh, brother! You would not believe how much that girl can eat. I had breakfast with her the other day and she stuffed every dish in two plates, and managed to finish them all!"

Ashton was not amused when he heard that, he narrowed his eyebrows while asking sternly, "When did you have breakfast with her? I told you, Mia, you have to be careful with strangers. You can't simply get chummy with everyone."

He was really worried about his little sister, who can easily befriend anyone. His sister liked to make friends with random people and was too friendly with them. She could even get close to the stall owner at the side of the road!

It was not that he didn't want Mia to make friends, but she was too carefree and it worried him. It made Mia an easy target for people with bad intentions. Wasn't this the reason for how his sister was almost falling into a scheme recently?

"Come on, brother. Phoenix is not bad. She saved me. Shouldn't you take that into account? She won't help me that night if she has bad intentions, don't you think so?" Mia tried to convince her brother.

"No Mia. She might have an ulterior motive to save you in that elevator," Ashton scornfully said.

Mia was puffing her cheeks and said, "No. She is not. I can feel it. She saves me from those bad men and takes care of me. Besides, I already talked to her, and she's not from this city and doesn't know anybody here, there's no reason for her to scam me. You'll see when you meet her tonight. Is 8 o'clock okay for you, brother?"

Ashton still wasn't satisfied with what Mia was saying, but he didn't want to argue with his little sister. He just nodded his head, agreeing to the time for dinner tonight. He just had to meet that girl and examine her.

It was not that he wasn't thankful to the girl for saving his sister, but he was suspicious of her when Ethan showed him the footage from the elevator.

The girl was fighting with two men, her skill was as good as a professional fighter. He and Ethan were shocked when she saw how the girl's moves were so nimbly and her every hit was precise, like it had been rehearsed. It made him question her identity.

But when he asked Ethan to check on the girl, as she had been staying in his hotel for a week, there was nothing suspicious in her movement as she was only seen going around in the city for work.

Now that Mia had shown interest in that girl, he needed to keep an eye on their interactions. If something didn't seem right, he would be the first one to know. He wouldn't let anyone else use his sister anymore.

Wasn't there a saying, 'Be careful who you trust, salt and sugar look the same?'

Wasn't stupid of him, if he just let his sister be fooled again?
